| Second Homes in Wales on 18:57 - Sep 22 by JACKMANANDBOY | My friend aged 50, is a regular runner, she developed an injury in her foot a few months ago and she now struggles to walk. Last week she got to see the specialist, he said it needed surgery and it would take 18 months to 2 years to get it done. She asked about paying for the surgery as she loves running. The specialist said it would cost about £3,000 and he could it next Wednesday!!!! That's the Welsh NHS. |
That’s not just the NHS in Wales, it’s a UK wide issue and it’s not good enough. At the moment the NHS is under huge pressure, and whilst your friend’s injury is serious and very important to her, in the grand scheme of things when you compare it to life saving operations, angiograms etc it’s not a priority. There needs to be a grown up and rationale conversation about the NHS, the population is getting older (particularly here in Wales) and older people are much more expensive to look after as they need more medical attention and frequently it’s more costly. The pandemic is a factor, but it’s more than just that. We are too reliant on their countries and we don’t have our own security of supply. Brexit is also a factor in the increased prices we are currently seeing, but that may change going forward. https://www.newstatesman.com/e

Incorrect the gas price on the world market is exactly the same. Wholesale gas prices on Europe exactly the same. Germany imports 94% of its natural gas. UK imports 50% of its natural gas. According to your argument as Germany is twice as reliant on gas imports as the UK they should be paying much more when both countries purchase natural gas on the world market at the same price. Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium Spain all import a higher % of their gas than the UK. France imports the same % as the UK.

You simply have to understand Wales will never be independent of the ret of the UK. When you take a wider perspective your whole outlook will change.

Makes you wonder what an American linguist knows about medicine let alone the NHS in the UK. Perhaps he should sort out the American health service first. If you don't have insurance and can self finance your treatment you don't get treatment at all.

The spot market clearly shows the fluctuations are much more pronounced in the UK, we are also more exposed because we are reliant on gas to produce electricity whereas a lot of other countries have alternative means of generating electricity. You mention France, they have so much spare capacity in their electricity generation they can export to us, Italy and Germany. What is clear is that Gasprom haven’t made any additional gas available this winter and there’s speculation that could be about leverage re the Nord2 pipeline, the gas that is available is becoming more costly. We need to become self sufficient.

| Second Homes in Wales on 20:48 - Sep 20 by Kilkennyjack | Because housing is a human right. You dont need 2 houses. Nobody does. Live in your new house and i have nothing to say. Live in it for 2 weeks a year then i have plenty to say about the impact that has on others. Dont be a selfish jerk or the locals will hate you. As you dont care then i would tax you to the highest level i can and give it all to the local schools, churches, amenities, and for the general benefit of the people of that area who have to put up with you. Dont be a billy big bollox, theres a good boy. Play nicely. |
I’ve got one in Pembrokeshire, it’s registered as a business. That business provides employment for about 5 people down there. It’s let about half the year, each guest spends on average about a 600 to a grand locally I’m told. Second homes being empty are taxed more already with council tax are they not? If you can afford just go have it empty producing nothing for the local economy then I guess you can afford to pay it in more tax.

| Second Homes in Wales on 21:52 - Sep 24 with 328 views | Dr_Winston | The idea that "housing is a human right" is one of the weirder ones that has done the rounds lately. Of course, people should be able to access accommodation locally, but that's as far as that right should go. Councils or private landlords should have absolutely no obligation to rehouse some filthy smack rat six months behind in their rent payments, or who have turned a nicely maintained property into a filthy shit tip. A national registry of terrible tenants is long overdue. | |
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |
