“Firstly you mentioned the lack of shots but shots per game must have improved dramatically this season compared to last.”
They haven’t improved, not even close.
Declined by 16%+, that’s huge.
First 8 games under Cooper = 97 shots and 12 goals First 8 games of 2nd Cooper season = 96 shots and 10 goals .......... First 8 games under Martin = 80 shots and 7 goals

Our last 3 league games, we've had 43 shots and 3 goals, that shows an improvement on the first 5 games, statistical proof we are improving.
Just using the last two games and multiplying it out (X4) that's 108 shots and 12 goals. I don't like that kind of stat but as you'd used our current record to moan we're in relegation form I thought I'd use a similar process to show the improvement.
If things keep improving then results will come and so will the goals

I used complete data to show our results, I didn’t pick and choose games like you just did.
I used all 8 games and compared them exactly to the first 8 games of the previous 2 seasons, they weren’t cherry picked.
There is a massive difference.
As for improving and selecting recent games, we have scored in 1 of our last 9 halves of football.
That’s a pretty shocking fact.

I used complete data from our last 3 games, data that shows an improvement over the previous games.
Isn't picking 9 halves of football cherry picking to give the result you want, all you did was leave out the last half we played in the league, that is certainly cherry picking. As the old saying goes, you are only as good as your last game so the last half of league football played should certainly be included. So you CHERRY PICKED your stats to leave out our 3 goals so yoy could again be negative.

Complete data, apart from our last 45 minutes eh
Using our last 3 games is cherry picking and is not complete data, it’s the opposite of complete data, it’s entirely incomplete.
Yes picking 9 halves of football is cherry picking, that was my point. Hence why I said “ As for improving and selecting recent games…” prior to giving you it.
What do you mean “the last half of league football should be counted”? It was.
That was the 1 half we scored in, in our last 9 halves of football. Which 3 goals have I left out “to be negative”?
You don’t understand what has been said, do you?
Come on Cat keep up here.

So to explain further and save us both time, because no doubt you will be scratching your head again:-
Brighton - 2-0 loss (scored in neither half) Luton 3-3 draw (scored in 1 half of 2) Millwall 0-0 draw (scored in neither half) Hull 0-0 draw (scored in neither half) Preston 3-1 loss (didn’t score in second half)
= scored in 1 of our last 9 halves of football.
That’s if you wish to cherry pick of course. However it’s best we look at the complete data which is our first 8 games.
8 games. 1 win. 7 goals. 16%+ less shots than either of the previous 2 seasons.

When the fixtures are put out they use a form guide too, the last 6 bgames usually. Form is where you are now, if we were poor 8 games ago then fine but why do you want to ignore the improvement?
Why is it wrong to show ourr improvement in the last 3 games? An improvement that will hopefully continue?
Form changes, even Man Utd and Chelsea have poor runs. Why was it ok for you to multiply out the first few games to say this is where our season is going but it's wrong for me to use the last games to show an improvement? The answer is you just want to run Martin down. Otherwise you'd be happy there is an improvement.
Stats are not everything, people want to enjoy football and not be bored to tears. If stats are your obsession fine, but most other people don't think that way, we want to have fun. I don't even believe you base your arguments on stats, I think you take the stats then form the argument.
We all want things to improve, well most of us do, some seem to revel in the poor start. They have decided how it is and won't change their minds.

“An improvement” isn’t what I’m looking for. I’m looking for acceptable results. Improving from horrendous to very bad isn’t what I find encouraging. The improvement isn’t being ignored, there is little importance being put on it at this stage, the bar was set extremely low, it would have been terrifying if there was no form of improvement at this stage, even under Bob Bradley.
Bob Bradley first 5 games = 2 points Bob Bradley last 5 games = 3 points
There was improvement there, why did we ignore it? We should have given him more time to improve further shouldn’t we.
Nothing is “so wrong” about showing a slight improvement from a very low bar. But when you are dismissing complete data in favour of incomplete data because it shows the narrative you want, that’s when it becomes pointless and people will pick at it because it doesn’t represent reality.
Form does change yes, when it changes to an acceptable level then we can talk about it, right now I don’t think the form is acceptable at all.
“Some” people want to go and enjoy the spectacle, yes. Others want to have their side be as successful as they can be and are bored to tears by failing to win week in week out and barely mustering a goal.
The only ones accusing others of revelling in the season so far are those that simply are starting to realise that those people were right all along. Instead of apologising for what they have been subjected to, the finger gets pointed that they are somehow “enjoying it”.
Utterly predictable, sadly.

You’re entitled to your point of view, but I can’t agree based on two things. Firstly you mentioned the lack of shots but shots per game must have improved dramatically this season compared to last so I’m of the view that goals will follow. Secondly you’re a Cooper disciple so you’re point of view is imbalanced as any Martin ‘happy clapper’.
If you could state what your target is for this year then maybe you could find some common ground. A lot of people including myself felt that Cooper was strangling the life out of the players, and as a result the club and the fans. It could be argued that he was decent enough results wise but that is also debatable. Martin is not the messiah, he has a lot to do, but his appointment represents a couple of hours important things - a fresh start and a return to footballing values.
If some fans want to sacrifice all else for a handful of turgid 1-0 wins that actually achieve nothing at the end of the season then more power to them. For me, loving the swans is about more than that.
Lets talk stats
LAst season we averaged 10.3 shots per game with an average of 50.1% possesion
This season to date we have averaged 10 shots per game whilst enjoying an average 64.6% possession. So the shots per game to date has not actually improved from last season despite us having much more of the ball. I m not a COoper disciple I am a Swansea CIty supporter and fan .Yes I have defended Cooper at times and that is beacuse the myths that have posted about his time here are often without substance. Listening to those on here you would thinki we had become a Pullis side yet we often played out from the back we still attacked even when 1-0 up. I and others have said it the fooball appeared dull as we were watching it at home with no crowds no atmosphere. I have sat through two totally uninspiring 0-0 draws at home agaist sides we should be beating given the squad we have.I am sure had we watched those games under the same conditions as last season no on ewould be eulogising!
Lets stop comparing MArtin with Cooper and compare Martin with Martin
I have posted these elsewhere but again some comments from the MKDons forum I was never convinced that we would have had a strong season under Martin this year. His style of play would never have allowed for it. Way too focused on just keeping the ball, rather than actually doing anything with it. The reason why I was annoyed, is he brought himself time here by continuously saying the team was a work in progress and then jumping ship just before the season, where it was all supposed to click, was about to start.
I'm convinced that eventually Martin will be found out as a fraud. He is extremely good with a camera pointed in front of him and will always say what he thinks the fans want to hear. You just have to look at his interviews so far with Swansea and they are almost creaming themselves over what he says, rather than judging him on results. I've seen some of their fans actually say that they are so impressed with him, that they'd accept relegation in his first season, after getting to the play off final last year! Fair play to Martin, he is one hell of a con artist. If you look at their first few games, they've had all the possession and done pretty much sod all with it, while the opposition have created more chances.
I have enjoyed the 4 games under Manning far more than probably any game under Martin. We have played with a purpose, rather than aimlessly passing it around at the back. I'm convinced Martin only played that way to get the country talking about our style of play and how much possession we were having (multiple articles were written about it). From an outsiders point of view, it looks impressive, but really, we almost got relegated in his first season and finished a disappointing 13th (given the squad we had) in his second. Only Danny Wilson (2004-2008) and Dan Micciche (2018) have a worst win rate than Martin, out of all the permanent managers in our history. Tell me this guy is not a fraud.
It wont be long before Swansea get real tired of possession based football that creates 1-2 chances a game.
But time to move on for us. Him having a good or bad season is meaningless.
I do feel the brand of football he plays is the best way to get his name out and get us the top of stats lists which are going to make him an attractive hire. It's also attractive for players to come and play here to showcase their abilities and get a move up the pyramid. But as you've said i much prefer this more slightly direct style that Manning seems to be playing and we're clearly not going to struggle to score goals this season. I'll happily take a few goal kicks going straight through to the opposition keeper if it means i can be as entertained as i have been so far this season. Playing the ball around on the deck to consume time when needed but still trying to play through the lines quickly when a gaps there to be exploited I'm more than happy with and combine that with every league game this season being a fantastic advert for league 1 football i think the reduced season tickets are going to be well worth the money.
So refreshing and enjoyable to watch us not force playing out from the back. Under Russ, Fish would have passed to Darling and then tried to find another ground pass. Now Fish seems encouraged to play a long ball if needed. He still comes out a fair bit with the ball, but we don't have that rigid pattern of play which, lets be honest, caused a few near misses and goals last season.
Ultimately, we're more positive and assertive pushing forward instead of aimlessly passing in midfield just for the sake of possession, but also more careful at the back taking less risks and using common sense over playing strictly out from the back.
Best of both worlds.
IT is straage isnt it how some of us on here have talked about the lack of shots despite the increased possesion...questioned time? Look at what they say....passing for passings sake, good in front of the camera ...ITs a process we need time...
Martin took over managing /coaching MKDons in Novemeber 2019 so despite having three quartes of a season a full preseason he somehow needed more time?
You ask my goals for this season ...same as they always are to see my team win matches and in an entertaing way..with goals...Last season was not all 1-0 turgid wins yet more myth but we are all entitled to our opinions.
What are the footballing values?....Under TOshack we played footabll but we were also direct...Martinez sides didnt pass the ball around without purpose the ball went forwards usaully at pace... he played with wingers Paul Anderson and then Dyer....we had an effective link between defence and midfield with Leon that is not visible currently under MArtin.
I do worry about him but I am giving him time but I will critique and queation the "blind faith" tht is shown amongst many here in the belief we are getting back to the Swansea Way....whate ver that is as from Martinez to SOuisa to Brendan to Luadrup the sytle changed even though we had entertainment but we were also winning more than we lost or drew....
My worry is it seems Martin ihas an obsession with Possession and that is reinforced by these views form the DOns forum.
Like I am sure Forest fans will find the negatives on here re Cooper...
Martin has time but the clock is ticking, he has overhauled the squadPiroe looks to have goals in him so does Obi, and Nitcham looks class.
I certainly dont hold the beliveve of some on here that I would accept relegation in order to rest our football ...that would be disaster....we have lost some "stars" yet we have gained some new ones aand also the style of play and stats suggest we have more of the ball yet the oppostion are doing us more harm then last season and we have less shots than ast season despite us having more of the ball?

This is frighteningly uncanny.
I said the other day it seemed odd before the Brighton game he kept going on about “time”. I said before the season “time” doesn’t really exist in football. He either does badly and gets sacked or he does well and leave.
The chances of him being our manager in 2 years time are slim. History tells us this. For what reason is yet to be determined.

It’s how it ends, not how it starts. I can assure you regardless of your stats that under Cooper shots were rarer than rocking horse shit. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve hit the woodwork more times in the last 8 games than we did in the whole of the last season. Not that it really matters, but have you got a stat for that?

So you want to compare Martins first 8 games to Coopers last 8 games after the players had played 40+ games?
Any other selective parameters to get the results you want?
The facts are we are shooting less than we were at this stage under either Cooper season, considerably so.
We are also shooting less if you take the whole average shots per game last season and compare it with shots per game this season.

Why are you telling me what I want to do? I don’t care what you do. Stats can be applied anyway you want , Martin’s only had 8 games so not a lot to go on.
Martin might ultimately fail like Cooper but comparing them at the moment is like comparing apples and oranges. First eight games v first eight games doesn’t really paint any kind of picture, it only makes a point that ones stats might be different to another’s, but it proves nothing other than that.
Some people will take their eyes of the numbers and form an opinion based on the signals sent to their brain by their eyes. Stats are valid but their not the be-all and end-all and just because someone’s stats are not as good as someone else’s it doesn’t make them bad, neither does someone else’s stats being better make them good.
Martin may improve his stats, maybe not. I would be interested to see where Cooper’s ended up, shots per game averaged over a season. Got a stat for that?

I wasn’t, it was a question hence the “?”.
Stats can’t be applied anyway you want, you have to try and get them as close to like for like as possible. Comparing a first 8 games to the last 8 games because it may give a better result for your narrative isn’t really what it’s about.
You were the one that compared them let’s not forget. You said “shots per game must have improved dramatically this season compared to last”.
They haven’t, they have declined.
Last season average was 10.3 shots per game. This season is 10.0 shots per game.
We are all using our eyes. The stats are backing up certain sections who are seeing what’s happening. They aren’t backing up certain sections who are seeing what they want to see.
Did you see the comments from the MK Dons fans? They mirror everything those that have raised concerns have said.

Yeah, ‘must have’ because that’s how it looks, fair enough if stats don’t support it. Stats serve a couple of purposes - they’re a tool for analysts and elite athletes to gauge and improve performance and also for people to try to reinforce a point they are making. The second is largely irrelevant because it’s not really what the primarily for.

It doesn’t look like that though, because it’s not the case. I most certainly didn’t think we had more shots. Yes it’s a selective stat, but it is a bit concerning we have drawn a blank in 8 of our previous 9 halves of football.
So I don’t think it looks like it at all. To me, it looks as the MK Dons fans described life under Martin.
Paraphrasing, it will be close enough:-
“Too much focus on possession.”
“Minimal chances.”
“Always asking for time and claiming it’s a work in progress, which never comes… until he leaves”
I think our fans are punch drunk on possession and trying to harp back to former glories. This is as far removed from Martinez or Rodgers football you could wish to be, people can’t see past the possession.

It doesn’t look like that though, because it’s not the case. I most certainly didn’t think we had more shots. Yes it’s a selective stat, but it is a bit concerning we have drawn a blank in 8 of our previous 9 halves of football.

Maybe, but it’s hard to argue that the football looked more aggressive or entertaining under Cooper than it does under the limited game time we’ve seen under Martin. I don’t really care about MK Dons - they’re typical fans, they wanted Martin to stay but when he left he was shit. We should be able to see through that kind of talk by now. I’m not advocating for Martin btw, but I’m glad Cooper’s gone and want the new bloke to succeed and so far our approach play appears to have improved. No particular reason that we can’t start putting wins on the board.

Depends what you like I suppose.
I haven’t enjoyed this season much at all to be honest. We have won 1 league game in 8 and were 21st a few days ago prior to the points deduction of Derby.
This time last season we were on 15 points, lost once and were just about to win our 5th game of the season against Blackburn (2-0) and get to 18 points.
Last season we scored more, we had more chances, we conceded less. There were no fans in the ground which made things a bit boring across all levels of football.
But I honestly don’t see why you would enjoy less goals, less chances, less shots, barely ever winning… just because we have more of the ball.
We don’t do anything with it.
I find it horrifically frustrating to watch.
As for MK Dons fans, it doesn’t sound like sour grapes and “he was s*it anyway” type of posts. They are very specific and constructed posts, it mirrors exactly what we have seen so far.
They are 3rd this season, it hardly seems like a need for sour grapes.
