The case for capital punishment... 18:05 - Oct 8 with 2480 viewsLohengrin

Reading this made me feel physically sick. I’d quite happily apply the halter and drop the floor myself, it wouldn’t give me a second’s pause.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Being found not guilty has nothing to do innocence. It is a decision of lay man and women in a Jury to hear learned chums go at it hammer and tongs and the best speaker most often wins. A game .

Not guilty means just that. How else are you going to determine innocence? It could work the other way around, a jury could find someone guilty when they are in fact innocent, and that does happen.

Abhorrent as this case is, the risk of executing innocent ppl is far to great a risk. It has been estimated, that approx 40% of those hung years ago were innocent. For that reason then no death penalty imo.

40 years ago there wasn't DNA, CCTV, smart phones and the police couldn't track people by their digital footprint.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Mistakes and dodgy convictions are still made. We have had one recently in Clydach, but I won't go into that

It does not.
It means a jury fond the case proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Now ,just exactly is that qualified

It is human opinion.

Now then ,Ian Watkins for example. Proven beyond any doubt at all.

Keeping them alive is an insult to the victim and their family

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Many people believe Dai Morris was innocent, I tend to believe that myself but if corrupt police stitched him up, that could happen at any time. That's why the death penalty would be reserved for cases where there is overwhelming evidence of absolutely the worst crimes.

Personally, if I was sentenced to a whole life tariff but I was actually innocent I think the point may come where I'd prefer the noose!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

All trials by jury are opinion. I've served on a jury and to this day I don't know if the defendant was guilty or not guilty,, but a verdict was reached nonetheless
