Gets pole position then loses it for a 0.3mm problem with his rear spoiler, so has to start at the back of the Sprint race.

He then finishes 6th in that but has to start 11th in the proper race due to a new engine part.

Actually starts from 10th and goes thru to win, despite Verstapen trying to drive him off the track.

Think what you might about him as a bloke and I do... he's one hell of a great driver.

World championship fight is on to the end, just what we want. I really don't mind if him or Max wins it, its great racing.

Mercedes have been denied their "Right of Review" over the decision not to penalise Max Verstappen during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Well they did start it, they invaded Poland (I saw the Fawlty episode on Sky this week)

I'd rather see Verstappen win the title than Hamilton but he should have been penalised for running him off the circuit, can't believe he got away with that.

I suspect this year might be the last one for a couple where someone other than Hamilton has the strongest chance for the title.

With the change of regs next season and Mercedes' decision to start concentrating on them almost before this season started, given their track record then next year LH could be in a very strong position.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I hope you're wrong & the reg change brings the likes of Ferrari & Mclaren into the mix for winning races but unfortunately you're probably right.
Making the cars less aerodynamically sensitive has got to improve the racing overall though.

There's no downside to making racing easier and reducing the cost for teams to compete. The hardest thing they have to do is make Ferrari realise that the sport can happily continue without them.

Think we could do with another 6-8 cars on the grid. Hopefully the changes will help that to happen.

Costs are just ludicrous really.
Whilst the requirement for new teams to stump up £145 million just to enter remains nothings going to change.
Hopefully when the new engine regs are introduced in 2025 the reduced cost will attract new suppliers & open up a way in for a couple of new teams - Porsche/Audi look likely (I guess they'll run a team rather than just supply engines)

How convenient the VSC didn't end until LH had started his final lap.

Masi getting involved in the countdown to this season again.

They're doing their best to harm Hamilton's chances I'm absolutely certain.

Do you really believe that they timed it that way intentionally?
Made no difference anyway because Verstappen already had fastest lap & had pitted to put a fresh set of faster tyres on. Hamilton had no chance of getting fastest lap regardless of the VSC.

The way things have gone I wouldn't put it past them. But your point about MV's new tyres and of course Bottas' retirement didn't give him any chance.

I also believe they'll be instrumental in the way the points go in the next two races.

Lewis on pole for penultimate race, Bottas 2nd, Max 3rd after a big crash on final corner of qualifying on the way to getting pole.

Game on for tomorrow, I want Lewis to win, just so its all to play for on the final race.

That crash by Verstappen neatly illustrates the difference between the two.

Mad Max is a fantastic racer. Genuinely quick when the mood takes him and capable of pushing the machine further than it should go. Hamilton is all of those too, but he makes many fewer mistakes. Put him in the position MV was today and he'd have been on pole for Red Bull.

It's ironic that for all Hamilton's hero worship of Senna, the driver he probably most resembles is Prost. Fast, smart, no mistakes. That's been the primary difference between him and most of his title competitors over the years. They screw up more than he does when the pressure is on.

Excellent analysis. Max just pushed too hard, could not quite rein it in. For the good of the race I hope he does not need a gearbox change. It’s a pretty crazy circuit

MV is reckless and has been since he started in F1, yet that prick Christian Hamer accuses Hamilton of being reckless, he'd love to have Lewis driving for him, of that I've no doubt, as for comparisons with Senna, I'd say they're to similar to separate, both natural racers.
Hamilton is right up amongst the very very best, probably in the top 3 over the last 30yrs.

Horner is blotting his copybook a bit this season. Coming across as a right little whinger.

Senna, Schumacher, Prost and Hamilton are the four best drivers who have been active in the last 30 years. What permutation you put them in can be debated to death.

For me Schumi's deliberate cheating knocks him down in the pecking order, plus the absurd team orders in place at Ferrari at the time. I'd rate Hamilton ahead of Prost, so it's between him and AS.

Horner has always been the same really, he's a moaner & does come out with some absolute nonsense.
The only thing I would say is that he's not helped by Marko chipping away in the background.
I hope the race isn't too processional, a couple of safety cars may mix things up a bit.

Red flag now, meaning Red bull can now change tyres without a formal pitstop that shouldn't be allowed to happen surely, should be changes to that rule.

who would have thunked it, the fastest street circuit having 2 red flags in 17 laps

great re-start by Max there... could have just won the championship

Tremendous win for Hamilton. The pressure has really got to Verstappen - he drove like a complete amateur!!

Edit ...

What a brilliant finish by Bottas to finish 3rd.

Well that was a hell of a race!
Looks like the pressure is getting to Max, he's overdriving because the Merc is quicker & going over the edge.
That wasn't Michael Masi's finest hour either.
