There was no vaccine for the Spanish flu in 1918, but cities in the US that mandated masks, social distancing and quarantining did far better than those that didn't

This has been done a thousand times. The vaccines work, they do exactly what they are intended to do. They are not there to stop you catching the virus and they won’t stop you becoming ill but they give your body the knowledge of how to fight it off quicker and more effectively reducing the chance of serious illness and death. During this period of infection you can still spread the virus to others who may not have been vaccinated because of reasons outside of their control such as being incontrovertibly stupid which is why we still need social distancing and good hygiene. | | | |

I don't think there's ever been any doubt that all the adult population (at least) will need boosters at some point. It's not a major problem and it's not moving goalposts, it's about keeping people fit.
I think if we managed to start vaccinating last Autumn then we may have been able to stretch until this Autumn beofre starting boosters as the NHS is under less pressure in the Summer and covid spreads less easily. We couldn't becasue vaccines weren't available, we're lucky they are avaiable now.
Hopefully we'll be able to stretch for longer than 6 months before a booster at some point in the future.
The vaccines aren't 100% effective especially so after a few months, and some people chose not to be vaccinated. Wearing masks and distancing protects those who won't / can't be vaccinated and the most vulnerable.
It's simple really, if everyone was sensible about distancing, wore a mask when possible and was vaccinated we could live as near to normal life as possible.
They don't so we're likely to see more restrictions at some point. | | | |

The point of vaccines is too reduce your chances of catching it by 90%. Reduce your chances of ending up in hospital and reduce your chances of dying.
If wearing a mask in a confined and crowded space reduces it even further then great. | |

You do get that immunity disappears after 6 months not 12 months, regardless of whatever else is going on.
Therefore you would have 6 months worth of extra loss of immunity, so you would be on the second booster.

Yes, I just looked it up, that quote is pretty blinking deep! I will have read that again in the week.
