Boris ? Will he go this week 18:54 - Dec 12 with 2286 viewsKeithHaynes

Seems to be a growing feeling he’s on the brink.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

If they voted against Plan B, which is clearly essential, they would have blood on their hands.

Labour voters are more likely to be impacted by the health implications of covid so they'd be harming their own support.

The Tory rebels are the only people in the house of commons who don't think Plan B is needed.

Instead I expect Keir Starmer to call for more stringent restrictions, which Drakeford will implement of Friday.

My view is that the Tories are simply looking to hold back the damage Johnson is doing.
They are collectively incompetent and craven in that they will not do things that they see as unpopular.

If they want respect and love then they need to do the right thing and have this country wise up and defend itself against collective sttupidity

If Labour had the balls to vote against the plan B measures this week he'd be toast. Combined with the dozens of Tory rebels voting against they'd have enough for the government to lose the vote, which would go some way to destroying what's left of Boris' credibility.

Unfortunately though Labour are an absolutely appalling opposition, even more blinded by Covid than the Tories. Boris knows that in a pinch he can always count on Labour to support tougher restrictions, even if the motivation for them was transparently just to save his own skin.

Today saw the first UK death from Omicron, can we be sure Plan B isn't needed?

It's just unfortunate that it may save Bojo's job at the same time.

When you say "blinded by covid" what exactly do you mean?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Probably a fault of the Welsh NHS. No walk in centres and no online booking system. We have both in England.

In the area where I live the NHS have operated “walk in centres” but the Health Board stopped doing them for a number of reasons. The locations were being swamped with traffic and it was causing significant traffic disruption in the local community, difficulties to prioritising the really urgent cases from the not so urgent, some of the elderly were having to wait very long periods without access to toilet facilities etc and there was also some friction between people queuing.

Totally agree about the online booking system which is something that should be sorted. There has to be a blended approach, walk ins and scheduled appointments because most f the people who need to be prioritised need appointments.

Javed’s announced today “It is our joint view .... that we can try to offer adults a chance to get boosted by the end of this month.” It’s a bit weaker than Boris comments, but nevertheless its a huge ask.

I've been proactive I've phoned them 3 times and been told the same BS, no walk-in centres here.

Keep an eye on their FB page as things may change in light of Drakefords announcement earlier tonight.

Boris faces massive rebellion from own MPs but Labour will vote for him and support him as usual.

Let's clarify that it was 'with' Omicron first. By all accounts there hasn't been a tidal wave of death 'from' Omicron in SA yet, the general feeling being that it is mild. South Africans can't believe the hysteria over Omicron here. In fact Dr. Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, feels that Omicron overtaking Delta could be a good thing, allowing large swathes of the population to acquire stronger immunity via a relatively milder infection. Different context in SA sure, but worth thinking about.

I suggest plan B isn't actually needed because we have had practically those exact restrictions in Wales for months, which have made 0 material difference in the infection rate vs England. And that was with the less transmissible delta variant. If it really is so transmissible nothing short of lockdown will stop cases spiralling, which obviously is not politically remotely viable until after Xmas.

When I say blinded by Covid that's what I mean. For a party which claims to represent the young (who are of course overwhelmingly opposed to restrictions) they are inexplicably in thrall to the idea of more restrictions- even if it means directly benefitting their political opponents. Their desire to be seen to 'protect the NHS' (which is always at breaking point this time of year) is so strong they are missing real opportunities to hold the government to account. By meekly supporting Plan B, they have allowed the government to pivot attention away from their scandals.

Why not simply say 'We withhold our support for plan B until we feel the government has been properly held to account for the Xmas Parties scandal'?

Labour have absolutely no backbone whatsoever. They should be absolutely murdering these charlatans in government but they are barely laying a glove on them. They reckon up to 100 tories could vote against the covid passes, but it’s guaranteed to get through because Labour will vote for it.

Now apart from the blindingly obvious fact that covid passes are completely and totally pointless and probably the most stupid idea anybody has ever come up with, they could land a real hammer blow by voting against the government (like they’re supposed to). It would probably be a popular move too as pretty much the entire population is against these covid passports anyway.
