But how is he going to live on 30k a month !

To be fair to him, that's not £30k a month until he is 65. That's £30k a month for the next 18 months and then quite possibly nothing. At 30 he hasn't gone long left to earn some money to live off after football.

He would have had to agreed it at its inception in August.

A big signing on fee and twice his weekly wage at another club I would say is his motivation.

Yes he would have agreed to the inclusion of the clause back in the summer. There's no disputing that.

But the article states he agreed to the contract extension. So did he agree to the brought forward extension last week?

Can you see the distinction?

Paterson is on 7.2k a week, plus bonuses.
We can split hairs all night.

But let’s be honest mate, he will get another club, plus his PFA pension at 35 👍

He earns more in a year than many supporters do in 10 years. I don't think footballers will get much sympathy from supporters as many will lose their job during their lifetime without the footballers nest egg or contracts.

And in ten years hasn’t dropped below 300k plus a year, sometimes nearly 500k.

And he is seeing kids 10 years younger than him picking up more money. He is earning more than most but I doubt there is anyone who wouldn't look to make a large amount more money if given the chance.

That’s the bit that isn’t clear at the moment. Yes there must have been some automatic extension clause in the original contract, which I’m assuming be didn’t have to physically sign to extend. But this bit about triggering it early, and if both sides agreed, is TBD.

His form hit a high in the autumn and promptly fell off a Cliff. Anyone reckon he was tapped up then?
