| Why is Russ not adapting our playing style 08:20 - Feb 21 with 2658 views | guthrieintherain | Just playing devils advocate here. We clearly don't have the players to play his system. Is he hoping a club with money to spend and better players will take a punt on him. Basically putting his future ahead of us winning games. I have a feeling the players are starting to lose faith in him. The last 3 away performances have been dreadful. Are they downing tools away from home. Because let's be honest if they put in the same effort at home games the atmosphere would turn toxic. | |

| Why is Russ not adapting our playing style on 14:40 - Feb 21 by EagleEye | I’m not sure portraying Mowbray as an example of a manager that makes fans happy is true. Remember he struggled at his hometown club (Boro) even with all the financial backing that he had there. Before Blackburn played us he openly stated that he had tried to implement a possession type game for 2 seasons at Blackburn. They finished mid table twice. He has now changed his set up to try & make them more of a counterattacking side. We won’t know until the end of the season if that is going to be successful, they didn’t look like promotion contenders based on their performance in Swansea. He is in his third season at Blackburn, let’s hope it doesn’t take Martin as long to review his approach with the players available to him |
My point is that at the start they were in a shocking state player wise and Armstrong was leaving . Mowbray has used his tools wisely. Russy s are still in the shed

| Why is Russ not adapting our playing style on 11:03 - Feb 21 by guthrieintherain | So why won't he adapt then just had a quick read through and can't see an explanation. Is it because he has a big ego and is stubborn as a mule. |
you missed my point it is often said " a bad workman always blames his tools" akin to a "bad" football manager blaming the quality of his players I have written much about this and am tired of repeating it But Martin needs to practise what he preaches, Keith posted an article last week I think about Martins methods and his use of experiential learning with the players...it seems he is not applying this to himself...

Exper …what. I doubt Russ has any plan at all. If yiu re reading this Russy, have the keeper clear the ball 50 yards up field and move the back three or four accordingly . It means the opponents have to attack from longer out . Also tell Andy he is not Messi simply messy

That last paragraph, seems to me to be nail hit firmly on the head. We keep trying the same things and keep repeating the same mistakes because of it. Shouldn't those experiences have taught him something? We know several of our players aren't good enough for what he wants but still he persists. it's illogical.

You would have thought so and I am really hoping he has that lightbulb moment soon, otherwise it will get more difficult for him. At least he has a week to prepare for WBA now

I would say the players can play the way he wants. Question is whether or not the way he wants to play is the right one. We've all seen teams who can play it out of the back. We know how that works. If Garry Monk or Mark Gower can make it to the Premier League with us playing that style, then nobody in the current squad is incapable. We don't play it out of the back though. We play it around the back. There's a big difference. The movement we need from midfield in order to create the space, the "triangles" that move the ball forward just isn't happening. Even when a midfielder does make themselves available for a pass there's a decent chance that the defender is going to get it straight back anyway. Even more so with Grimes. I don't think I've ever seen a supposed linchpin and playmaker make so many immediate one touch passes right back where it came from than he does. He can do better. Even I will admit that. Question is why doesn't he? That leaves us awfully vulnerable to a pressing team, and when we've only got three at the back anyway (unless we've compounded the midfield problem by dropping Downes back as we often do) that's just asking for trouble. We've got to the point where opposing managers are quite happy to point out the failings in our system because they're confident that it won't change. We haven't been in that situation since Brian Flynn. There's a lot of talent in this team. Certainly more talent than has been reflected in many recent results. RM is rapidly running out of time to demonstrate that he knows how to get the most out of it, or whether his obsession with his own style will put an early end to his time here.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

I get what you are saying, I just think Mowbray is a pretty average Championship coach. That said, he is getting more out his players. The sum of our parts under Martin is well below par. We should be doing much better even with such a thin squad. He needs to demonstrate that he is learning and adapting from some of the harsh lessons we have been given on the road
