Yep.
The biggest issue with electrification is that they bothered going as far as Cardiff. The South Wales main line is far too wonky for electrification to be of any benefit whatsoever, yet for political reasons they went ahead with it anyway. Tens of millions, maybe hundreds spent to cut a couple of minutes off the journey between Bristol and Cardiff.
For electrification as far as Swansea to have been of any use they'd have had to build a new line between us and Cardiff, which would have basically reduced every stop in between to a branch line. Simply not worth the expense.
The idiocy of the Lagoon scheme has been done to death many times and only the terminally stupid or those in line to make a couple of quid out of the project still think it's a good idea. |
