To do this ,we need players of a quality our club stature cannot afford. It's that simple Benda has a presence ,Fisher has not. Every team starts with a strong keeper. We have tolerate too much. I see unfettered support for Martin and little for players like Benda,Whittaker,Joseph,,Fulton,Bennett ,all of whom will not look back with any affection for our club when they leave. |
I do not agree with this. All Swansea players should be comfortable on the ball and easily play the ball around the press with an extra man. This was seen with Brendan and Laudrup and also potter. It does not need international superstars just good technicians. Garry Monk and Ashley Williams got there by practice and drills. Swansea have always accepted there is a price to be paid with set pieces because 6 ft 6" in players are not athletic and nimble enough.

Comfortable yes, but they dont need to be as good as is being made out. Fabianski and De Vries were both pretty average. More recently Mulder did alright under Potter. Its what we are asking our keeper to do that is too much.

Fabianksi never would have coped with the Martin style.
| Benda to Brighton ? on 20:41 - Jul 5 with 501 views | Dr_Winston | The days when all a keeper had to do was stand on his line and catch crosses are years in the past. The last keeper we had whose sole job to do that was probably Geuret. Whether the dinosaurs like it or not the modern goalkeeper has to be proficient with the ball at feet too. Fisher is better at it than Benda. You can argue the toss (and I have done) that Benda should have been given more time, but you can also argue (and I've done this too) that the way we play at the back puts unnecessary pressure on whoever is back there. Fisher is not a bad keeper by any stretch but he was often made to look one last season. We need to move on from doing that and quickly. | |
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

I sincerely hope he gets another opportunity. I am supportive of Martin and what he is trying to do but can't agree Fisher should be number 1.

I could only see Vorm being able to do what Martin wants. And thats kind of my point, we don't need the keeper to be contantly involved in play. They need to be comfortable to play out, but not to the extent we have been doing it.
