25% tax sounds about right. No individual or organisation should need to hand over more than a quarter of their income to the Government. The 75% they keep will then be passed onto shareholders, which are mostly pension funds so retirees don't have to live in poverty, or reinvested back into the business, which means jobs & new technologies created. A lot of those who claim benefits are in work. Its funny see, I've got no problem having my taxes help people in need, provide good public services etc. The government just gave a 70bn contract to firm to be the middle man in carbon neutral work. The money spent on benefits pales in comparison to what they siphon off to their friends.

You do know that £70bn contract story has already been thoroughly debunked right?

Care to debunk the billions wasted on PPE, Track and trace etc etc? Ahhh yes a tiny company is going to be allocating funds of up to £70bn, can't see where thats going to go wrong and i wonder how big their consultancy fee will be.

Yeah, it's essential not to dive in. But I do find it funny that people are happy for the government to line their pals pockets but throw the "scrounger" line about people on UC, most of which who are in work. It's also important to note that times have changed, so the opportunities we had simply don't exist to the extent we had

More money is lost to tax avoidance and ridiculous government contracts than benefits. But down and out people are a much easier target, get the almost poor to hate the poor while the rich take whatever they want.

Tax avoidance is perfectly legal. Every working person in the UK claims their personal allowance to avoid paying income taxes and NI tax. Those on benefits avoid paying income tax on all their benefits. Perhaps you meant to say tax evasion. Meanwhile BP invests billions to produce more gas and oil from the North Sea as well as new green energy.

Avoidance is the legal version of tax evasion. Its a shame we are not all able to fully exploit all the loopholes available to the rich and big business. Tell that to all those who are going to be forced into poverty, I bet they'll be chuffed to bits.

| BP on 10:17 - Aug 3 with 677 views | Dr_Winston | Tax loopholes are of course available to anyone. People who have bought stuff duty free have used a legal tax loophole. Self employed or those with other incomes do it all the time. The economically illiterate believe that it's something only corporations do. | |

No one ever hobbled or non declared income , its those who are PAYE which are the ones who carry the burden , regardless of income

Aye so buying a bottle of booze duty free is the same as domiciling in a tax haven to avoid tax to the tune of millions.

Of course that's true but it's also clear that not everyone xan access avoidance schemes, hence why the working man/woman pays more aa a percentage, which is wrong.

Anyone can access avoidance schemes. One of the questions on the self assessment form is about it. The major differences are that most people are PAYE so tax comes out at source anyway, or because they simply don't know what they can claim for. Big companies employ expensive accountants to do that for them.

| BP on 20:02 - Aug 3 with 589 views | EagleEye | Why should a PLC subsidise a failing government, country, public service sector ? BP is a British success story paying millions/ billions in taxes through UK Corporation tax & through its employees. The dividends will be used to support pensions for millions of people & the profit after tax & dividends will be reinvested to support future developments & make more money for the UK. That’s how the world works, like it or not. The UK government has done less than most of Europe to help petrol pump prices, continuing to take huge taxes from every litre sold at the pumps Oil is traded in a commodity market, the price determined by worldwide supply & demand. The USA almost finished the company due to the oil spill caused by an American contractors in the Gulf of Mexico. American contractors with senior US politicians in their ranks. Swings and roundabouts. On the other hand Amazon, Starbucks, etc. & many others pay very little corporation tax in the UK & create very little wealth | | | |
