You still have no idea how good Piroe is do you.

Yes I know how good Piroe is, I'm just looking at the best setup for the team as a whole with the players we have.

Yep. It's not a difficult concept is it?

The team needs Piroe and Oba in it. The best way to manage that is to play Piroe behind Oba. Doing so demonstrably has no negative effect on Piroe's goalscoring rate,, adds Obafemi's goals to the mix and improves the link between midfield and attack (which is also improved with Cooper, so ideally we'd get both in there now).

Even if Piroe prefers doing something else.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Can’t really go along with that.

We’ve got 7 points from 4 games with Cooper behind Piroe, 5 from the 6 games before that. Piroe has scored 3 goals as a striker and 1 penalty as a midfielder.

The best team doesn’t necessarily contain the best eleven individuals.

If there is a way of playing two up front with Cooper behind, I’m interested, but that would probably involve playing narrower or sacrificing a central midfielder.

Which would be fine if the absence of Oba and introduction of Cooper was the only difference between the two spells, but it isn't.

I would suggest that the change of keeper, the change of emphasis on ball play around the defence and gradual improvement in the way we're moving the ball are bigger factors in the upturn in performances, if not quite yet a definite upturn in form.

We've always been capable of scoring goals. It's conceding too many stupid ones that keeps letting us down. If, and it's a big IF, RM has finally worked that out then we could be on for a decent season. We'll need more than one goalscorer in the team for that to happen though.

The very fact Benda has the sense and application to clear a ball to safety underpins much. It takes pressure off when he takes control soon.
Let s be honest, seeing Fisher looking like he was going to take his top off and replace Benda saw heartbeats raise .

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

I agree to an extent. Those factors have all contributed of course. Less goals conceded is as important as more goals scored.

I wouldn’t say it’s the absence of Obafemi, I don’t want to do him a disservice. It’s the presence of Cooper and Piroe playing within striking range.

In the last four games, he’s scored three times, missed a penalty, hit the bar twice and spurned at least two very good opportunities as well as a couple of half chances.

Yes, we look more solid and are no longer gifting the type of goals Cundle and Piroe had yesterday (Tuesday aside), but the biggest difference is we’re creating multiple chances per game for our best finisher.

He’s a bit of fine tuning away from being as clinical as last season. A few more games where he is and I’m sure he’ll get there.

Benda is following orders. Just as Fisher was. Those orders have changed. The worthlessness of the intial plan was not Fisher's fault.

If we're going to continue down this defensive path then I'd have no problems with Fisher filling in. I'd prefer Benda, but then I always have, even before Fisher was signed. Even before Woodman came back for Season #2.

Fair comment but I would suggest it is a little more than that as Benda seems more self confident in his own abilities . I can’t help feeling we have not utilised this lad as we should have since he has been with us .

Benda is easily the better keeper. Fisher is streets ahead receiving and playing the ball with his feet.

If we’re not going to revert to involving the keeper in practically every move in our own final third and one twos around strikers, which most of us hated anyway as we routinely got caught, there is no reason not to play Benda every game.

If he does get injured, Fisher is absolutely fine to come on as sub.

Obafemi, in his few minutes on the field yesterday, showed he is missed.
Disgracefully booing from the crowd.

The player who Martin seemed desperate to bring to Swansea replaced Obafemi in the RoI game with Scotland but wasn’t, by all accounts, as good.

Personally I thought he was feeding on scraps the first half hour, then he started to get more into the game laid on a beautiful ball that they should have scored from. On a positive note we want him to play but not over tired when he returns.
