Decent reply. I actually feel the same

Labour spent a lot of money and made a lot of reforms that put the NHS onto a slippery slope. It's top heavy with managers, poorly managed by them and in a chronic state nt helped by the tories being so utterly rubbish and corrupt. Even so, that irrelevant. The Welsh NHS has been badly run by the Senedd. There seems to be plenty of money to be spent on their ideological policies but not enough for the vital services which is why, when my wife had to go to A&E last week we were told there was a 19 hour wait and there were 15 ambulances queueing outside.

Well, many of us on the 50s 60s thought so until Crosland destroyed grammar schools where “ ordinary working class “ kids could aspire and achieve .

Well in the 70's and 80's there were many rubbish schools with rubbist teachers. Bishop Gore wasn't a really rubbish school and there were some very good teachers, for example a Geography teacher (Mr Ince) actually insisted on teaching us and insisted we paid attention. He wouldn't be allowed the same methods today but I came top of his class because he sussed out how to get the best out of me, he challenged me, he made me hate him and be desperate to prove him wrong but in proving him wrong all I really proved was he was a good teacher doing his best to get the best out of me. I had other teachers who barely noticed when people didn't turn up!

Going to be a huge burden when upto to 100,000 former private school pupils return to state school when Labour makes then unfixable. Amazing the hypocrisy from Labour some of whom went to either Grammar or private schools and continue to send their children to them.

Correct they end up in sink estate comprehensive schools if parents don't move to catchment areas of decent schools.

I'm not sure I've heard a strong argument. I've no issue at all with private education, but don't try and tell me this tax would punish the hardworking, who scrimp and save to put their children through. Private schooling is for the most well off. You need a minimum of around £15k a year to fund it and that's if you've only got one child. If you'v got that kind of disposable income I doubt the tax would put you off. As for Grammar schools, it's not even up for debate. They are socially harmful. The research outcomes are so strong no government would be daft enough to bring them back.

If you're genuinely interested, take 4 minutes watch this vid. You simply can't be a govenment that talks about leveling up and then reintroduce Grammars. It's not something I put a lot of thought into these days as there's no chance of it happening. The evidence really is that clear.

Relax, he answerd a point no one made. There are sink estates in Wales, kids who simply don't go to school and their parents don't care, like traveller kids. We have teens who can't spell their own names or do simple math. The kids don't care, the parents are feckless and th government is useless, it's a heady mix.

If you remove ambition and an education system that does not stretch brighter pupils and give more opportunity to those who have more practical skills you level down not up.

That would be true if children in grammar schools performed better than their academic counterparts in comprehensive school areas but they don’t. Outcomes for the top 10% of children in comprehensives and those in grammar schools are and always have been remarkably similar. What’s also remarkable is that comprehensives achieve this whilst supporting children of all abilities and backgrounds. I don’t disagree with with you about the need for better vocational education but that needs a much bigger change than just introducing Grammars. Grammars a very Tory type policy but they’ve not gone for it (even with recent massive majorities) is because all of this administrations successful education policies have been based on research (early reading/phonics, curriculum breadth, toughening standards, baccalaureate qualifications) found in high performing countries. Do you know what these high performing countries have in common? No selection at age 11. The video shows why grammars are particularly damaging for disadvantaged children but I’ll chuck another reason in there. All tests from Reception right the way through primary school have an exact correlation between month of birth and test result. Children born in September (as a group) do better than those born in October and so on, right up to August when the gap is then massive. Using age 11 as a sorting stage massively disadvantages those born later in the year. How on earth are we supposed to know which children need what kind of education at that age? It’s unnecessarily chucking kids on the scrap heap.
