| Martin's motivationsl qualities laid bare on 14:27 - Dec 28 by Badlands | My mistake. Just looked at replays. Neither Allen nor Grimes were marked when the ball was played in their direction. |
Have a look again both Grimes and Allen had players in close proximity to attack the long pass out from Benda, which is what they did as required to mark the player and win the ball. You could say bother Allen and Grimes were caught flat footed as it would appear neither expected the pass. Seen Fulton in his younger days marking players but too far away from them, then dive in to try recover his bad marking and cocede free kicks, he had progressed under Cooper until his rash return to diving in the play off final. For me marking is about making sure you are closer enough to prevent the pass being made to the player you're marking and capitalising on the pass if it is tried. When marking a winger Rangel Angel usually had to make a descion if the winger only has speed he would drop off to stop the ball over the top and if the winger had very good ball control he would try and stop the ball into feet, if the winger had both speed and skill then an organised team/captain/manager would make sure he had cover. Our team work defensively is hampered by constant change. Our passing in defence is too slow and not good enough giving players attacking the ball advantage. Quick ball into feet gives the receiver time to turn the attacker in the challenge and if the pass is to the correct side can make that turn easier by getting the attacker on the wrong side. Risky pass but if you have the quality to do it can open up defences further up the park,. Speedy passing not happening in the team at the moment. [Post edited 28 Dec 2022 17:50]

It's like they all have instructions to take 3 touches before they pass! Not just quick ball but first time passing is something we seem to have abandoned. We can't do give and go. I watched Allen play a square ball to Grimes and then just stand still. he should have looked to get ahead of hs marker and oened up space for a return ball but he was a statue. That (statues) incidentally is my nickname for Martin because under him that's what we are playing.

Rangel to Britton give and go used by many a Swansea player, some better teams counter this and Martin is using the give and not go which is sometimes used, but Martin is using it all the time, similarly the goal kick routine, moves to be used as option not the norm. Predictable.Easily playable. Enable the players not restrict them. [Post edited 28 Dec 2022 18:47]

Too many question marks File under all opinions are welcome You seem very very supportive of Martin and frankly, it’s rather incomprehensible to me. Some will fawn all over you but I will stick to my guns Keith. Thanks
