I appreciate how you feel but I think it's clear that we need better players in certain positions.....wether that helps Martin or a future manager then it can only be a good thing.
We have a weak squad, a squad that should be doing better than it is currently for sure but it certainly needs strengthening. | |

I dont think we have a weak squad daps, i honestly believe we only need another striker and 2 quick wingers/wingbacks, we have a player on loan who could fill both those positions in whittaker.
I dont want Martin sacked as I want my team to do better, we have a squad adept enough to get into the play offs it's just Martin doesn't use the squad at his disposal correctly.
To answer the OP, ogbene has been linked to use in August and after watching him live I think he would be a great addition to our attack. [Post edited 29 Dec 2022 10:56]

Well, we could well lose 4 first teams in the next month Manning who is the most consistent and one of the better players. Latibeaudiere, Ntcham and almost certainly Obafemi.
These players aren't also rans, they have all contributed and there's chances of other's going especially the loanee's Martin has pied off so many players that looks obvious. | |

Its never as black and white as it seems and people like it to be to suit. Tell you one thing Fire, I have supported Martin, lots have jumped on him from day one and even the false stories of papers being drawn up but he is certainly fighting for his job if he loses his next 2 games.

The misguided views you talk about, you may view them as misguided, but others don't think they are, a manager with genuine ideas of how to win football matches would get a fair better tune out the squad we got, f,me he spent his playing career as a defender yet his team leak goals every game, he hasn't even sorted that out, so what chance have the midfield and the strikers got.

I agree with what you are typing Max, I just think it becomes silly when top 6 is mentioned..........its a misguided mind that thinks we are good enough to be there no questions asked, It's not a clear and cut case as some make it out.
The squad has potential, its a young squad that can do better but is that time the here and now for many of them or is that time a few years down the line......a lot of posters are getting confused with potential of players and using it as a level to where the team should be at now.
I just try to see things realistically and without any self gain that many on here do so quite clearly.......i do agree that its getting to the point in the next 2 games that Martin could be fighting for his job and those mythical papers could actually for the first time be getting ready from the bottom drawer.
In relation to signing players, it makes good sense to sign a good player who becomes available at a good/decent fee.....teams have done it with no manager in place.
I am not defending Martin at this moment in time, he has a job on his hands and needs to sort it out quickly. | |

At present Piroe is not putting away chances, Obafemi wasn’t before his spat and Cullen only scores on pickups off the post.
Several excellent chances went begging against Reading which suggest a upgrade is needed in the striker position.
Is that striker Ogbene?
I doubt he'll come to us for what we are prepared to pay. But there again why the hype? Is he another Martin obsessions like Fisher, Wood and Darling? OK but no more.
Ogbene's scoring rates are better than Piroe's but no where near Ntcham's.
TBH I think the money would be better spent paying off Martin. |  |

I will answer and hopefully we can get back on track after that.
There was a similiar scenario at the start of the season, we had been on a bad run and fans were fearing a tough run of fixtures coming up and wanted him out.....he went on a run and moved us up the table so my conclusion is based on a past experience.
I must add, I am not defending him here as I stand, just being open minded about the situation and I agree that he has a right job on his hands......the next 2 games are key for him. | |

This young squad, in real terms 24 years 291 days is young but in football terms is it that young?
You are talking mostly of players who have been pros for 3-6 years, who have over 100 games under their belts.
besides which our midfield had Allen, Fulton and Grimes who are 32, 8 and 27. Ntcham is 26. Naughton and Paterson, 34 and 31.
We have a core of experienced players, our best players have been Manning (26) and Cooper (23).
I think too much is made of young. Isn't having a squad that isn't so aged the players have no zip left, a good thing? Or it should be. Youth and enthusiasm with that core of experience, isn't 24 and good average age and not an excuse for failure. | |

But we only got back to a position we had been before the bad run and then things started going downhill again.
If he had turned things around that form would have continued … it didn’t, it hasn’t and IMO it won't.
It could argued our good run happened earlier this year, mid - September to mid - October. Or, it might have been we had a few good halves against truly dire teams. We certainly rode our luck.
But patterns are there to see. A few good results and the pressure is off keeps happening for Martin, players coming in and not being used, panic tactics when trailing, starting line-ups that baffle fans and pundits, not accepting responsibility and publicly singling out players.
The style we are trying to play is fine by me. But, it requires the players to carry it out. The ability of the players to carry it out is down to the manager and coaches. There is no point trying to play a style if you can’t coach it effectively.
IMO, we have some exciting players in the squad who are not being trusted until panic mode hits. | |

Forum rumours are fine, to an extent, but this information does leak out of the club quite easily. I was talking to some quite shocked people from behind the scenes at the swans who were incredibly frustrated to read a lot of truths regards Paterson and O’Reilly last January.
For the record Paterson was fined earlier on in the year as its a natural course of events, however it was revoked, so the thick heads who never turn up after slating certain people on this website can do one. AND those that remember O’Riley and his links to the swans at the same period should also note he was desperate to sign but the delays in salary meant Celtic stepped in. Horses mouth.
So again, do one.
