| Police interviews 06:08 - Jan 24 with 1337 views | Boundy | It transpires that no face to face interviews take place when interviewing candidates who wish to become Met Police officers , after careful consideration that will change , sorry I'll read that again , after too many murders , rapes by serving officers etc [Post edited 24 Jan 2023 6:08]

| Police interviews on 07:42 - Jan 24 with 1282 views | majorraglan | It’s my understanding candidate interviews take place as part of the police national assessment centre process which every candidate has to pass to join, but the tests and interviews will take place online via zoom or whatever. What some forces are doing is dispensing with the requirement for an “in-force” interview over and above the national assessment centre. I believe one of the Welsh Forces might have taken similar steps. This is all driven by the upsurge in recruiting, Boris imposed ambitious targets for increasing cop numbers and there are severe penalties for failing to achieve the target. Starting salaries of around £23k for a difficult job don’t help. | | | |

No excuses for not interviewing candidates properly. Perhaps if senior police officers spent less team being woke and pushing woke policies they would have not time in interviewing candidates.

I stand back and wonder as to wtf is going on. Primary reason for Police failings is that they have lost their primarily objective and that is to make criminals lives hell. Senior officers now are mini politicians and not thief takers . Many haven’t seen an angry man in years ,if ever, but they will make a guest appearance for the Media cameras . You have to interview a candidate in person

Their primary aim is to protect the public and property. and serve the monarch, i'm sure you remember that from when you took an oath

I totally agree with your comments about interviewing people, I’d even go as far as bringing back home visits for potential recruits. I’m not condoning what’s going on, I’m just telling it as it is.

Good posts. Home visits were significant. Basically ,both you and the family unit were assessed

I carry out site inductions and although to some they may not appear in important they are , the point being is now there's a big drive towards online inductions and my view is that not speaking to the candidate face to face there no whether the person takes what you're presenting seriously or get an appreciation of their attitude . So if I have my concerns then how can a police officer be employed based on a zoom meeting defies comprehension. Who ever is in power they're hung for not employing enough police and hanged if they do This from the Mets recruitment benefits & rewards online web site : We are offering an increased competitive starting salary of over £33,500 including allowances for new police officers. This will increase to circa £37,000 on successful completion of your probationary period. Police constables with six years’ service who have progressed through the salary band each year, can typically expect to earn circa £50,000 including allowances. Salaries are made up of a basic salary + London weighting + London allowances. As a new PC, you’ll start receiving your salary after you’ve been attested on the first day of your Met Police training.

These people cannot surely go in to the management of serious and complex crime, I’m going to ask a few mates.

I can explain. Those who have spent three years getting a degree in The History of Art can step in as a senior officer as their education shows they have a higher intellect sufficient to hunt down criminals and supervise subordinates . I had a Supt who had a PHD in 17 th C Western Baroque Music . Brilliant viola player .

Mate of mine’s daughter just finished Uni this year and has been accepted on to the graduate detective entry course with a big force. They’ll be tutored etc, but they’ll soon end up managing serious crime investigations. The young lady concerned is a bright girl, but Uni to managing a serious crime caseload in months is nuts. We’ve seen what’s happened to the Probation Service, hopefully the police wont go the same way. Edit - typo [Post edited 25 Jan 2023 21:34]
