Plaid Cymru's grand plan 18:08 - Feb 8 with 4201 viewsSullutaCreturned

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/

Now here's the thing, the Senedd says they won't raise taxes because we are in a cost of living crisis and they cannot ask people to pay more. It's a funny old game, politics though. I say that because they always say Westminster should give us more money. The only way for that to happen is for Westminster to raise taxes and if they did, what do we reckon Drakeford would say?
I reckon he'd criticise the goverment for raising taxes and no matter how much extra came Wales way, it still wouldn't be enough.

For the record, if the Senedd raised taxes in Wales, lets say by what Plaid suggest, I'd be OK with it, if the money was spent wisely.

Vhanged it, should have been paying closer attention!

Why ask?

Hey Kilky,

https://youth.conservatives.co

Felix, Kilky has a narrower view of the world than many a tory voter! He only seeems to see black or white and misses the numerous shades of grey.

Well i am correct.

https://www.ft.com/content/145

You are a light-weight poster.

Get your facts straight.

*Conservative party members are more likely to be male, white British, a Leave voter, middle class and living in the south of England than the general population

Nearly two-thirds of Tory members – 63 per cent – are men, the research found, compared with just under half of the UK population, according to estimates by the Office for National Statistics.

While 83 per cent of voting-age adults in Great Britain identify as white British, the figure rises to 95 per cent among Tory members.

More than three quarters – 76 per cent – backed Brexit, against 52 per cent of voters as a whole.

Why you argue against something that is bleedin obvious only you will know.

How many of that 63% are middle aged and bald then? There's a lot of older tory members too. So to state the tories are middle aged bald men is nit right.

37% are women to start with.

The smiley faces were because the poster cannot distinguish facts from taking the pish.

For the hard of thinking … the baldy comment was a pish take, but the middle aged, middle class, south of England based bloke comment was based on fact.

Obviously a comment claiming that all Tory supporting men are all bald is not a serious suggestion.

Wake the feck up. 👨‍🦲🇬🇧

Well a few might have grey hair i guess.
You are probably correct.

The Tory vote is irrelevant in the Celtic lands.
They never ever get power.

Whereas sadly in England, the toxic Tory brand of greed and self interest remains popular.

Its a reality that cannot be air-brushed or ignored.
The people in the Celtic lands have different priorities, and the different voting patterns over 100 years bears testament to that truth.

You are not listening.

There are no celtic lands just different parts of the United Kingdom. The majority of Welshman are desended from the huge number of immigrants who moved to Wales during the Industrial revolution.

Its only through independence that you get the tools you need to improve Wales.
Just look at Ireland compared to Wales.
Wales is an afterthought for Westmonster.

Ireland has depended on EU subsidies for virtually all the time it has been in the EU. It only became a net contributers in the last year. The Irish people even rejected the treaty of Lisbon in a referendum. The EU did not accept this result and threatened Ireland with a reduction in subsidies if they did not hold a referendum to reverse the result.

Let's celebrate the ethnic diversity of the wonderful institution of the United Kingdom which the majority of the Welsh nation love being part of.

The Saes never arrived, they are the result of centuries of breeding amngst many, many people. Romans, Norse, Celtic, peoples from all across Europe and beuond are present in our DNA mun.

The people of Cymru have never voted to leave the UK either and as it stands no more than around 25% are really interested. Yet more Welsh people vote in Uk elections than vote in Senedd elections.

So lets see the number once Scotland leaves and Ireland is united.
25% can easily reach 50%.

Thats the scenario.
People will not want to be Wales-shire.

Johnson has been a huge boost for Indy Wales.

Does it though? Look up the phrase “leprechaun economics”. It was coined a few years ago by a Nobel prize winning economist to highlight the huge discrepancies between the huge rise in its overinflated GDP and actual economic situation on the ground in Ireland. Despite being on paper one of the richest countries in the world in terms of GDP the Irish people don’t seem to see a single penny of it. Their unemployment rate is one of the highest in Europe. Their tax receipts don’t seem to improve even with this seemingly massive growth.

Isn't a large part of its gdp the money declared by the big cirporations who use EU laws to use Ireland as a tax haven. They have a large gdp but rock bottom corporation tax.

When the EU tried to change tax law it needed 100% agreements but unsurprisingly Ireland and Luxembourg vetoed it because they make so much from the current rules.

If the corporations moved their head offices because taxes went up, Irelands wealth would plummet.

Correct.
In December 2022 the EU after much negotiations and threats of veto agreed to a minimum corporation tax level for all member countries. It will be set at 15% from 2023.

My memory of the details are very sketchy but there was a perfectly legal but morally abhorrent scheme where US companies would register their profits in Ireland but the company holding those profits would be an Irish registered company in Bermuda. It was known colloquially as a “dirty double Irish sandwich” or something along those lines. This artificially inflates the GDP figure. They showed about 30% growth for one year because some us tax rule changed causing US companies to pump more money through but the tax take barely increased at all.

It’s all a bit of a farce really. Ireland remains a lovely but largely agrarian and craic loving nation but their economy is an absolute basket case.
