And to be "whiter than a sheet", it's been changed to "paler".

What kind of person is offended by this?

My knee jerk reaction was "the worlds gone" mad but after thinking about it, I'd rather them "modernise" the books than take them away from children

Although I do think that chocolate factory book made me a fat chocoholic

IMO "modernising"books is the start of a slippery slope of blanket censorship , pandering the minority , a fat child is exactly that , fat, plain & simple .a word being replaced by another which won't take away the stigma of the condition . Stick and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me, a saying not strictly true but somethings in life will always "offend" someone somewhere but we don't live in cotton filled boxes immune to the world and all that's wrong and good within it nor should we be

That’s the point I was trying to make.

They’re of their time and fantastic.

They wouldn’t be written in the same way now and that’s fine too.

"They wouldn’t be written in the same way now and that’s fine too"
And there lays the problem, why do you think "it's fine" ?
