First it was the Welsh football team taking on the name. It's gone well.
So now the rugby have followed.

For me it boils down to whether you want the Welsh language to exist.

If you do, it makes perfect sense to use it for our biggest institutions and and landmarks.

Sadly I’m not a Welsh speaker but love the fact it exists. It’s unlikely I’ll break the habit of using the English for Wales or Brecon but I’ve no issue with the changes at all.

For me it comes down to what are we spending money on when the NHS and schools are collapsing, when criminals run rampant and we don't have enough police?

Spend the money where it is most needed.

Do you want the Welsh language to endure, Cat?

If so how would make that happen?

I see the Welsh language as less important than peoples lives, their quality of lives, their safety and their kids education.

If anybody thinks the language, any language, is more important than any of that I will agree to disagree.

I take your point.

I just think in the list of things to save money on, preserving (or not) the language is pretty low on the list.

It just doesn’t cost that much (relatively)

Maybe so when taken individually but when you add it to all the other crazy, wasteful things the Senedd does like throwing millions at a racetrack...it failed to happen and we lost the lot, like spending 100's of millions buying houses and doing prep work forthe M4 relief then cancelling it, like buying good farmland to plant trees, when you add all the waste up it comes to a lot, really a big number. Lets not forget they want to increase their numbers and they can always afford a political pay rise, even when it was 18%.

For the Welsh language they also altered the school curriculum which takes time to implement AND takes time away from other subjects.

Do you want it to ensue at all costs.
Frankly,I’d rather a country where it’s people don’t have some of the worst health stats is Western Europe.
Just how does a language relate to that.

It will ensue if people want it to. If people don’t want to speak it or learn it then so what.Clear evidence on here of welsh speakers looking down on monoglot indigenous welsh people. It’s hideous.

It’s not at all costs. It’s using the native language for the rugby team and a some hills.

Costs are minimal. If we’re serious about improving public services this is not the place to start. Even if you want to lose the entire annual bilingual program you’d probably raise enough to build and resource one secondary school.

I’ve not seen any hideous looking down by Welsh speakers and I’ve been clear on my views on nationalism.

Unfortunately the renaming stuff got politicised by the the media.

There were hit pieces in The Spectator and Spiked. The Mail called it ‘Woke’ 🙄

BBC need to wake up and improve their mentality. They vertically invented "West Wales" when they declined to use 'Dyfed' when that existed. It is understood to mean the old Dyfed by default but not Gwynedd.

Because they never used it no one outside Wales had a clue where it was. University Challenge students would know the name of the Butler Jane Austin "Pride and Prejudice" but could not name the unitary body comprising Cardiganshire Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire in the 1980s . "(FFS) pass Jasper".

BBC Turkish language facebook page refers to the UK as England in Turkish. Turks say as far as they are concerned UK and England are the same. The BBC have the same view because their management is Turkish. They should be sacked. There is a word for Britain "Britanya" but Turks and BBC prefer to discriminate against UK citizens. UK according to BBC Turkce in "Ingiltere" from the French "Angletere". It fits the Turkish policy of formally ignoring the existence of minorities

What do you mean by native . It is a minority language in the country as a whole

The heartlands remain in the north west of Wales and Ceredigion

As for winding up,consider ,if you will, the hysteria when the relevancy of Welsh is questioned

By native I mean a country with its own unique language.

Hysteria when the legitimacy of it is questioned? Where? There’s certainly been some hysteria on here and in the national media over using the welsh words for some hills and a rugby team.

As I said earlier, it’s largely down to political snowflakery, hence the channels triggered by it.

“Don’t worry about the wait for and ambulance, some welsh people want to use the welsh name for the welsh rugby team!”

Smoke and mirrors. How people fall for it is beyond me.

Welsh is not the mother tongue of most
Hysteria?
Why,just take a look around and you will see plenty
Anyone questioning Welsh gets puerile abuse indicating just how immature people are

Wales is the poorest part of GB and we appear to fret most over how many speak Welsh.

The 20 most deprived areas in the UK are all in Northern England. Not one in Wales.
This Wales hating thing of yours needs to stop. You will make yourself ill.
Obsessed. What have the Welsh done to you to make you so angry?
You say you had to go to Chapel as a kid. Is that it?

It's either Wales knocking or Russell Martin knocking. Sad.

Your last line is exactly the point. try to help the economy, try to sort out the NHS, try to improve peoples lives. Instead they waste money on things that are less important. They cost Wales 150 million through sheer incompetence

Wales is struggling, Wales is suffering and they concentrate on the least important of things. Votes for 16 year olds...they spend huge sums onpublic consultations that they then ignore if it doesn't give the result they already decided they will go with.

This is where people get worked up, not because of one story in isolatin but because when you put it all together they are screwing Wales up and wasting huge sums.

How much are the 39 extra MS's going to cost Wales and how will they improve our lives? How is the new MS candidate selection policy going to improve our lives? How is letting the economy stagnate by not improving roads going to make our lives better? How is the 5 year queue for NHS surgery helping our lives?

I have taken that story in isolation as unlike the others, I think it’s a perfectly reasonable use of the money.

I think in the main the main the senedd are useless, but when it comes to spending money on culture type things, some is going to be spent on things individuals like and some things they don’t.

I’m sure there are some that are furious about the dosh that went into the Liberty. Some will be furious that money was spent on spelling Abertawe into the seats.

Thinking that money spent on promoting the Welsh language is a good thing is nowhere near endorsing the Senedd. Different argument.

Its a false dichotomy.

Its not an economy vs a language debate.

We need a great economy (Brexit has cost us 4% GDP which is dreadful for our young people) - and we need a thriving welsh language.

Its not a lot to ask as very many nations have 2 languages.

It enriches us a a nation and sits alongside English.

Dont play the BBC game - the choice game is total garbage.

Brexit has not cost up 4% of GDP that is another one of your lies.

What the report said is that Brexit " MAY" cause upto a 4% loss of our GDP over the next ten years. The key words are MAY, UPTO, OVER TEN YEARS.

It is a possible prediction from an organisation that has bern spectacularly wrong in its predictions even over the last year.

Anyway the UK voted to leave the undemocratic EU, which as you know appoints its President and all its 28 EU commissioners they are only people in the EU who have any power.
