| Welsh Tourism 10:58 - Jul 17 with 69070 views | Dr_Winston | https://www.theguardian.com/uk Already on its knees in recent years thanks to the Welsh Govts unnecessarily heavy Covid restrictions, refusal to deal with M4 congestion and seeming intention to actually make getting around in Wales even harder. To top that off we've still got the mooted tourist tax to come. Is there anything in this country that they can't screw up? | |

I'm guessing alls well in mid Wales , because little ever changes there ,the sun rises, the sun sets etc etc |

| Welsh Tourism on 17:14 - Aug 7 by lifelong | Been down Oxwich today, there was a crowd on the beach. The place is spectacular. Our daughter got married there 12 years ago, many of our English friends attended the wedding and couldn’t get over the beauty of the area, some of them still visit annually, we are so lucky to have it on our doorstep. |

I used to like Oxwich very much, especially the Crawley Woods end Went back a few years ago and it ain’t as good as it was, which is the case with Zport Eynon. Rhosili remains staggering though and the walk top Fall,Bay memorable Mewslade also good but beach is covered at high tide I used to swim in Brandy Cove after trudgingbdown Bishopston valley When Caswell had the Redcliffe ,it was a place to be. Same with the Langland Bay !back in the day Happy memories mainly Best beaches I’ve come across are on the Llyn north coast and at Llandwyn island on Anglesey . [Post edited 7 Aug 2023 21:49]

Hmm, you said, "Numbers are just a guessing game. Just a load of bollo x Hkw can anyone say what visitors Wales gets." So by your own words, your own words are a load of bollo x? Here you go, https://www.beacons-npa.gov.uk with this extract... 52% of visitors were from Wales, accounting for 77% of day visitors. 40% come from England, making up a quarter of day (23%) and 70% of staying visitors. They hail from South West (31%), South East (27%), West Midlands (14%) and London (13%). 7% are from overseas, making up 15% of staying visitors. They come from areas reflecting marketing activity including Germany (17%), USA (15%), Netherlands (13%), France (11%), Spain (8%) and Australia/New Zealand (7%). Most hail from Powys, Cardiff and Swansea 18% coming from Wales are from Powys, 13% from Cardiff and 10% from Swansea. Numbers from nearby counties are relatively small.

Most potential tourists to Wales haven't a bloody clue where Bannau Brycheiniog National Park is. Come to think of it, neither does 70% of the welsh population know where it is, and probably a higher percentage can't even pronounce it, another backward step for welsh tourism.

You don't speak Welsh then, and by the sound of it dont 'approve if the Welsh language. How very odd.

Considering the amount of pro Welsh language and culture on this board, one would think there would be a thread on the National Eisteddfod. But then again possibly people just want to argue for the sake of it and have no real interest.

Uparrowed by mistake. I think people will know what Bannau Brycheiniog means when it's plastered on road signs along with brecon beacons, just like most signs in Wales.

Of course they will, but will they know where it is when they are planning where to go on holiday. Would you visit Schwartzer Wald, or go to see Lille Havfrue ?

Taken from Wikipedia. 'The Brecon Beacons, or Bannau Brycheiniog is a mountainous region and national park in Wales. The name 'Brecon Beacons' was originally applied only to the mountain range south of Brecon, Powys, which is now also known as the Central Beacons' Perhaps they might do this first then put Brecon Beacons into the sat nav 😉

For 66 years the park has been referred to as the Brecon Beacons, they will use both names initially as to try to avoid any confusion, for the time being.

Thing is, most people know the Black Forest or Little mermaid. Most people who want to go to Brecon will discover the name change when they get there. What they won't know is where Bannau Brycheiniog is if it's mentioned without reference to Brecon. People planning to go to Brecon will still go. The real issue is that fewer people are making such plans.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. The Beacons national park committee are a bunch of w*nkers, ask anyone that has had the misfortune of having to deal with them and run a business. CEO Catherine Mealing-Jones, Liz Bickerton, Dr. Yvonne Howard-Bunt, Professor John Hunt and Mr. Craig Stephenson.
