Already on its knees in recent years thanks to the Welsh Govts unnecessarily heavy Covid restrictions, refusal to deal with M4 congestion and seeming intention to actually make getting around in Wales even harder. To top that off we've still got the mooted tourist tax to come.

Is there anything in this country that they can't screw up?

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

You are very self confident for someone who is mostly wrong.

Your grandparents generation would have seen 2 world wars, the great depression and Spanish flu which killed 50 million people.

All you had to suffer was England winning the World Cup at the early days of mass TV.

You are also wrong about the current house price to wage differences - never been as bad as todays generation have to face. Try google. Your analysis lacks the depth required on this complex issue.
I do hope you are not advising any young people.

“Suffer” ….England winning..?
That’s not a good look.

Days gone by …
any library ,any museum will evidence the utter daily grind of life in the likes of a poor country like Wales.

Kids ,really, have access to almost everything tangible ,if they look around. Fall down these days and there are armies of help. Then ,you just died .

Fact

Biggest tragedy for kids now would be to have their phone taken from them.

I agree with much of what you’ve said, there is definitely an impact on the Welsh language and culture, but equally some of the people moving in to Wales make the effort to integrate and learn Welsh.
Immigrants of all nationality place an additional strain on the NHS because we aren’t increasing the spending to proportionality cater for the additional demand. The elderly do have a much greater impact on the NHS budget, it’s huge additional cost and the more elderly in an area the more of the budget is eaten up, however, by enlarge we are talking about people who’ve worked and contributed by paying taxes all their lives and it’s not their fault the Barnett settlement doesn’t fully acknowledge the impact.

Villages in North Wales can by empty most of the year, but tourism does bring benefits. It’s about getting the correct balance.

No ,tourism doesn’t just benefit.
It is the beating heart
Every been to Blaenau Ffestiniog in November .
Quite why anyone would buy a house in such a depressing dump amazes me.
Why live somewhere where yiu are hated because of the language you speak or because you are not local.

Welcome in the Hillsides? Yeah, right !

The article is about Wales.
Why are you harping on about Rhondda…?

Repeat after me, Wales voted for Brexit by a very small margin. It was such a small margin that the English retirees , who brought their politics with them, were numerous enough to have been statistically significant and very possibly the difference in such a close national vote.

Its been a disaster for Wales, of course, as predicted by all the sensible people.

Hows the taking back control of ‘our borders’ going ? 🤣
Hows Johnson doing as PM ? 🇬🇧

You can convince yourself of anything. Most Welsh people voted out. Including many Labour voters. Cameron wanted us to stay in the EU. Remember that nice leaflet he sent us all. As for Boris Johnson..the guy is a plank!

It's easy just to blame the English as you continuously do. You seem to have a xenophobic view of everything English. Pity because theres some lovely parts and many decent people too.

The great generation was your grandfathers war generation.
NHS, pensions, state education for all, social care provisions, and peace in Europe.

Peace in Europe. Did you forget the Yugoslavian conflict in the 1990's

Toggy.
It’s been a while since I’ve been home.
I do not see us a particularly welcoming at all.
My mother always used to comment as to how open and friendly people are up here.
It is a fallacy the Welsh are more friendly than anyone else.
It’s a case of reading criticism and feeling a defence is needed. I can guarantee one individual will be tamping reading this and it won’t be Killy ,to be fair.

Outside London,England is little different to Wales apart from welsh language speaking areas which delight in making outsiders feel…well, outsiders.

I can get by with basic welsh but it’s no use in Penygroes, Llyn or deepest Betws Garmon, not to mention the sink estates of Bangor. You are treated as an outsider ,clearly and unequivocally .

We are a Union and it’s madness to think otherwise . Sentimentality is lethal.

I will disagree with you slightly. I do find people in South Wales particularly friendly. Swansea, Valleys, Pembs. You will get the odd Nationalist nutjob but they are far and few between.

I didn't mention my grandparents.

I wasn't born when England won the World cup.

The house price to wage difference is higher yes BUT you can still buy a decent house for a reasonable price unless you are so entitled you demand to ive in a big house in a posh area. A house on my street sold for 125k earlier this year, it's a 3 bed terraced with a decent sized garden and a garage. There's another for sale, just went u at 150k but it won't get that much. Now with interest rates being lower than they were in the 80's those houses are more affordable.

Again in the 80's there was higher unemployment, try getting a mortgage without a job. There again my "analysis" never mention price to wage ration, just interest rates which are very relevant. 4 years ago we took out a 7 year fixed rate at 2.36%. In 1981 the base rate was 14.375%, in 1990 13.875 which saw many people lose their homes because the interest killed them, financially.

As usual you post your facts but don't see them in context.

The only young person I do advise about finances is my son. At 14 he has over 23k in a trust fund, 2 other different savings accounts and we intend to sign the house over when the mortgage is paid and move into a sheltered housing complex and letting him have the house. Tell me, do you think that is a bad strategy, being the expert you are?

What I can tell you as an absolute, irrefutable fact is, he will have it much better than me and his mum did.

PS, just because I feel like it, how can you say I'm wrong about things I haven't said, can you see how wrong you are there?

That’s fine .
I am probably older than you and more grouchy.
Often friendliness is mistaken for being simply nosey.

I’ve never been a fan of valleys ,frankly. It’s me but I feel hemmed in.

Out of curiosity I cant remember 66. I was born but very young 😂. Did Welsh people support England against Duetchland.
1970 I remember buying stickers of players to put in a World Cup book. I can remember being disappointed when they lost to West Germany 3-2 and the criticism of Peter Bonnetti.
I can also remember a time down the Vetch to when we were pants and Cardiff were pushing for promotion to Division One and many people having an interest and hoping they would do well.

I can only speak for myself and schoolfriends, yes we supported England and the buzz when "we" won was incredible. This changed sport in my school forever. Prior to the win we were not allowed to play football in school, the WC win changed all this and 12 months later, after many arguments between parents and school, we were allowed a football team and it was allowed in PE. Yes the WC has an impact in Wales.

If you watch the film of the 66 final, a sea of Union Jacks far outnumbering any flag of St George.

This is very true.
Quite why Englands fans attended with the wrong flag is a mystery.

Of course, they only beat West Germany and not Germany.

Englands attitude then changed as evidenced by them ending the Home Internationals in 1986.
England wanted no special relationships any more.
Plus the violent fans causing drink fuelled mayhem all over Europe.

Wales woke up and looked after itself.
We had to.
Many welsh fans stopped wishing England well within 4 or 5 years of that decision.
100 years of tradition counted for nothing to the English FA.

So glad they have won nothing for nearly 60 years and counting. 🇮🇹

Very very busy in Mid Wales this weekend. Lots of Brummies I would think, they love it around here.
There must be at least 100 foreign camper vans around Llandrindod lake today. Free parking helps.

Most countries have huge debts, the sums are so large they can never be paid off. National debt is no big deal as long as the international banks etc get their interest payments and fees

They they get the picnic chairs out and sit under the awning doing sbsolutely diddly squat .Then they brew up .
Then they empty the ports potty and go homewards to choke up the roads

I will never understand people who go for a holiday/short break and don't spend. Fair enough if you are struggling. When we go anywhere we spend a bloody fortune. I like a beer and a glass of red Mrs T likes a blinkinhNew Zealand Sav Blanc. We also eat out all the time as to us that's part of the holiday. Especially when you're abroad.
