Well the punishment for breaking the limit,

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/police-confirm-how-punish-drivers-

Given how many idiots are on the roads, the delivery drivers under pressure and the actual difficutly in staying below 20 (it is difficult, I do it every week when I go to Cardiff and it's harder than you'd think, specially going downhill) there will be a lot of speeding going on.

The Senedd expect the fire brigade to become a road safety unit, how stupid is that? The fire brigade have their job and it's hard enough for them to do that the way the Senedd behaves.

Then there's the pollution problem, all those cars tootling around in second gear will fill the streets with pollution, it'll rise and rise and the few accidents stopped by this madness will be replaced tenfold and more in the years to come by serious health issues, those with asthma can look out, better buy your respirators now.

I wonder if cancers will also increase?

By the time we have all gone electric, assuming we all do, thousands of lives will be blighted by illness.

I did debate and as I pointed out, MILLIONS do not kill or MILLIONS would be dying on the roads,

In reported road collisions in Great Britain in the year ending June 2023 there were an estimated:

1,633 fatalities, a decline of 9% compared to the year ending June 2022

29,429 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties, a decline of 1% compared to the year ending June 2022

133,443 casualties of all severities, a decline of 3% compared to the year ending June 2022

Considering the four main road user groups and demographics, the statistics show in Great Britain the year ending June 2023, compared to the year ending June 2022:

the biggest estimated percentage change for fatalities was pedal cyclists, which showed a decline of 22%

pedal cyclists had the biggest estimated percentage change for all casualties, showing a decline of 8%

77% of fatalities and 62% of casualties of all severities were male

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/reported-road-casualties-in-great-brita

At those rates it would take 612 years for 1 million people to die. Hyperbole is exactly what you used.

The backtracking begins...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-68838440

Not backtracking enough obviously. A 20mph limit outside a school makes no sense at all when schools/nurseries are closed. A variable limit would be fine if safety is the concern.

No real need for a 20mph limit outside hospitals at all.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Gething would appear to be feeling the heat already having swept into office on a wave of dislike. This would be a quick, easy win for his administration.

Of course, the taxpayer would be bearing the brunt of the cost of undoing all the changes that the taxpayer didn't want in the first place, but that's Governments for you.

He’s a labour politician in wales. It doesn’t matter how much he’s disliked, the chances of him not winning the next election with a massive landslide are virtually zero. He can do whatever the hell he wants.

It doesn't look as if that is entirely true as is seen with the imminent 20 mph changes.

If nothing else this campaign has opened the eyes of voters who now acknowledge that politics in Wales is riddled with ineptitude, corruption , a mighty own goal by our betters

Agreed. Labour in Wales is so entrenched in tradition that it is practically impossible to remove. Hopefully the 20 mph law and the public outcry has made them realise that the Welsh public will not be taken for granted and it is a small step to them being more accountable. I have no problem with any party ruling Wales as long as they do the best for the whole of Wales and improve the living standards and quality of life for all residents. This has not been the case since the Senedd has governed Wales, hopefully I will see the change in my lifetime.

He may be more concerned with internal challenges than the voters, which as you say, generally deserve all they get for continually voting them in.

This is probably the best thing to have happened. Now the electorate have been awakened and lets hope we stay that way.

What we need now is for more people to vote and to make it clear their votes will not be cast because of loyalty but because they have been earned.

The Senedd must do better and if they can do better then maybe there will be more support for further devolution and even, one day, independence. That's a long road though.

So we can clearly see, if even more evidence were needed, that it's not about safety. If it were, there's no way that they'd be capitulating this easily.

They tried to force through lunatic transport policy using a feeble excuse and hoped the Welsh public would be gullible and/or apathetic enough to let them get away with it. They were wrong.

Morning to you too.
Sometimes, a concerted effort seems evident
You seek to prolong disharmony .
You agree with much I believe but can’t admit it.
Fact
Plenty disagree with me but keep it tidy. You dont. You won’t ,You can’t. You never could.
Twenty years of this ,me ol mucker. Twenty years .

Roger used the word brigade and it not. He’s not been personally insulted either .
It’s what you do though.

We're not anti 20mph where it is needed, we just disagree with a default setting and it being 20 on roads where it isn't needed.

This was my complaint from the beginning, the speed limit changes should have been planned properly and implemented properly and then only the money actually needing to be spent, was spent.

All this has achieved is to waste millions on apparently pointless changes, because many will be changed back.

You still cant accept that if it was really about safer roads then they would have introduced other elements too, such as more cameras, more police and other traffic calming measures. They chose a cheap, relatively innefective route and it backfired.

Anything worth doing shouldn't be done on the cheap.

The thing is, a lot of residential roads were already largely 20mph. Most schools will have a 20mph zone outside them. Millions have been spent for absolutely no reason if, as we're expected to believe, safety was the concern.

But clearly, from Day 1, safety wasn't the concern for the people pushing this idiocy through, people like Lee Waters and campaign groups like Twenty's Plenty and the Sustrans mentalists. Making life inconvenient for motorists was. Motorists have fought back and reminded the tiny pressure groups where power actually lies. With the majority.

More of this we need.

Much more, the majority need to be listened to, the majority should be the ones taken notice of in day to day decisions.

Other things like increasing the numbers in the Senedd, if the majority agree then crack on. if the majority are against it then no. There are things we elect our politicans to do and things they should not do without the electorates approval.

Your complaint from the beginning was that the 20mph would create more pollution and, in the future, thousands of people would be blighted by illness and cancer cases could increase.

What do you suggest happens now? Go back to as it was so that the death, serious injuries, injuries and accidents remain similar in 30mph zones?

I do still believe that 20mph was introduced as a safety measure and not to ‘force’ drivers out of their vehicles.

Not sure about other areas but locally it seems to be working. The usual black spots where you would have a bang every month or two are accident free at present.
As I say, not sure if it’s the same in other areas, but I hope so. Less accidents means less injured or killed.
Happy to leave for work a few minutes earlier if it means the roads are safer.
Not all will agree , because they leave for work last minute, rush to get there, and put themselves and others at risk.
