| Stoke City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 17:37 - Dec 13 by jack247 | I think the Martinball thing is overdone. I can completely accept it if we’re talking about Grimes and Fulton in isolation. We brought in 12? New players this summer. Of the eleven that started at Stoke, six weren’t here last season, how did Russell Martin influence them? |
Fulton has never been good enough. He can head a ball ….. so maybe he is a centre back….?

I’m not sure myself but there seems to be an aura around that sees us this way I fully confess to not being a paid up member of Russyclub. Even now,,any criticism can lead to unpleasant discourse I’ve seen puppy killers get less stick. |
Yes, there’s definitely a perception that we’re still heavily influenced by the way he wanted us to play. If people want to say Fulton and Grimes drop too deep, get in each others way and slow down transitions from defence to attack, I get that and I’m not arguing. Just pick one or other of them and that problem goes away. Taking those two out, the only players remaining (Tuesday) are centre backs and Paterson who has been a totally different player to last season. If we were starting 9 or 10 of Martins regular players I’d get the point.
