To compare two by election results to the possible result in a GE would be silly. But there have been ten by elections, I believe, since the last GE and barring the freak ULEZ result in ??? (was it Uxbridge ?) the Tories have been hammered.

One thing that is quite noticeable about these various by-elections is that the Labour vote isn't increasing by any significant percentage. In Kingswood it actually dropped by 5000. What we're seeing is not people enthusiastically rushing out to vote Labour as they did in 1997. We're seeing a collapse in the Tory vote.
Labour will, in all probability win the next election and they need to, but they'll need to have a good first term in office because it could easily change back if Rishi's eventual replacement has anything about them. |  |

A case of get the popcorn ready, cos there looks to be a load of infighting and melodrama ahead! M.P's who are guaranteed to lose their seat are sure going to be impossible to shut up!!!!
I do ponder if the Conservatives will propose to abolish ECHR law(s). Too little too late and I guess many will not believe it, or at the very least will think it’ll be a case of “more of the same” even if it was abolished anyhow. |  |

What we’ve learnt from the last couple of years is that being mean to foreigners isn’t moving the needle for the Tories. Leaving the EHCR would make no real change.
I’m amazed the strategy they continue to push hasn’t been changed. Wasting all this time on small boats when all polling shows that although it’s obviously an issue, it’s way behind cost of living, the NHS and even potholes when it comes to things the British public care about.
They’ve tried to blame all those on immigrants but most people are smart enough to know it’s a lot more than just that. | | | |

I don't remember which but one of these seats has usually been won by the party that wins the GE, that prof John fella said so.

Yes we need a strong government AND a strong opposition but right now we have the weakest bunch of politicians I can remember. The tories have been busy (well Bojo was) getting rid of anybody with a strong opinion, Bojo liked weaklings who did as they were told.

My treasured and right to vote option is fast becoming is waste of time for many .
Some polling booths are lucky to get a 20 % turnout in local Elections , I attend and mark X.
