It seems fairly well accepted (apart from the cranks and loonies) that the Venezuelan opposition "won" the last election only for Maduro to do what dictators do and rig it. Their leader won the Nobel Peace Prize last year so I would expect her to play a role. Probably the major role.

This will have serious ramifications and it’s a very risky and inflammatory move by the US but having said that you have to take your hat off in awe at what an efficient and well executed operation this seems to have been. The 'accepted' way of dealing with the likes of Maduro is a load of debate in the UN followed by sanctions that penalise ordinary people, having a quicker way of getting out rogue leaders who ignore or over ride democratic processes seems to be needed.
Having said that Trump has just driven a coach and horses through the US democratic processes and has taken Maduro. Let's hope there are not groups of armed idiots ready to start chaos in Venezuela. | |
