Swansea City v Sheffield Wednesday : Match day thread 23:59 - Feb 2 with 11707 viewsModeratorC

It’s on a Sunday you know

Swansea City : Do not underestimate a team that hasn’t scored for eight games 6th Feb 2026 09:42
Swansea head coach, Vitor Matos will face the wider public today and reveal how his squad has shaped up after a week of treatment for certain players. Melker Widell was his latest concern prior to the away win at Watford last Saturday, Eom and Ronald thereafter. Swansea City face Sheffield Wednesday at the swansea.com on Sunday at noon. 0

REFEREE THOMAS KIRK AT THE SWANSEA.COM STADIUM

Swansea City five points off the play offs as they batter Sheffield Wednesday 8th Feb 2026 15:39
If ever there was a routine win then this was evidenced today at the swansea.com. The Swans never looked in trouble in this game at all, and at times seemed to be in second gear as they probed the Owls defence. 0

Swans score four : What the fans think ! 9th Feb 2026 08:17
Two new writers join us on the Indy, Rhys Clayton and Olle Soderholm, these are their first contributions to the Indy but what a time to join in ! An emphatic display by the Swans on a Sunday afternoon with more goals scored than in any game this season. An unfortunate Sheffield Wednesday are almost resigned now to League One. 0

It’s very casual atm, especially since the goal. There’s goal difference to think about.

Yes it’s very routine but this is a game we can really press on in.

Sunday is when it all clicks together, like a well oiled machine we will dominate the game with fast fluid football , our squad looking stronger with imo good additions and existing players improving I can only see one winner ?

Ahhmmmm

Well, that was more like it. Wednesday are on their uppers admittedly, but we scored some good goals.

Edit. And respect to the away Owls supporters. I think we can all feel what they are going through and admire their loyalty.

Glad I found a good stream for that.

I think what's impressing me most is the uptick in movement. Players are making themselves available, which makes moving the ball easier, which makes moving the ball quicker.

Too many times in the past we've reverted to predictable, slow, boring possession recycling. That looks, hopefully, to be a thing of the past.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

This may sound ridiculous but we could have played a lot better particularly in the first half. SW were very very poor and we should have put them to the sword earlier. We didn't seem to get out of first gear, we didn't need to. I know it seems futile to complain after a 4-0 win and some of our play was sublime, but in my opinion we could have played better for longer.

That’s exactly what we were saying first half , we took our foot right off the gas , we can’t afford to do that, one mistake and we could make it very hard for ourselves
That said a good win and valuable 3 points, I thought Cam was very good today, he takes stick on here but he won everything in the air and was rock solid and calm today, one thing that concerns me though is Vigaroux being stuck to his line, not coming for and cutting out balls close to him in the first half ,we ended up scrambling a few balls away which he could have claimed , he did cut out a few crosses in the second half and looked a lot better
Tymon had a good game and Stamenic was very good ,winning a lot of balls in the middle and big Zan laid some lovely balls off and took his goals very well
Let’s keep this going

I don’t really care it was SW we played…I really enjoyed the way we played…the movement was much improved as you say, but more importantly it was good entertainment and a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Attendances were well up end of December, can only assume that a lot of folk were home for the ‘holidays’ Three game period the Swans had a bigger average attendance than Cardiff City. It will be down today due to a number of factors.

Attendance today was 16,776 I don't think that is too bad for a Sunday lunchtime KO live on Sky playing bottom of the league. I would say there were more like 1,000 Wednesday supporters not 1,500, if that is the case we had about 3,000 unsold tickets, not ideal but not bad.

Agree with this, Burgess has been solid as a rock for weeks now winning every important header.

This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you."

Glad to see us finishing the job of after going 1-0 up, had my worries in the first half because we didn't get the second even though we should have. Always a concern about us dropping intensity and letting the opposition back in the game and old players scoring against us.
In the end job well done.

The best thing for me was not seeing us go defensive after the subs.

Yates did absolutely nothing today with or without the ball. He didn't make runs, close down or press. He went to go into one tackle and backed out like a coward. Another player who has stolen a living.

Jerry Yates did a disappearing act. And when he did appear he just chased calls down and then stopped. Oh wait, that was like his time with us. Thank god he isn't our player. Also side note, I hope Lowe gets a better team, like his time with us and is wasted in their squad.

Steff Wed haven't scored in nine games. It's pretty sad that Yates is getting a battering here when he's playing upfront for a team not creating chances for anyone.

He was woefully misused at Swansea. Don't see why he's being hated on for it.

I think most on reflection most thought he was a poor signing and were glad to get rid of him.

Some find it easy to hate but hard to praise.

We are on a good run atm and it shows by the lack of posts 🤔

Where has the real Jay Fulton been hiding since the play off final defeat.
It was such a pleasure to see him making the pass and then the runs forward into space again, giving us a forward momentum, obviously it wasn't just Fulton but seeing him travelling confidently forward with the ball at his feet whereas he normally only ever takes one or two touches on the ball.
Matos has got us playing as a team and not a team of individuals, players offering the man on the ball options with movement while that movement is holding the opposition up allowing the player on the ball time to make the right decision and allow us to get further up the pitch to get into dangerous positions.
Think we still need to build confidence to get further up the park, in that first half we had a number of long range shots that were never going to trouble their goalie, happier for us to just work the ball further forward to make those shots a more viable option. Nice seeing us looking to create the spaces higher up the pitch which eventually saw SHW off.

Guy was our second highest scorer in a terrible season. Not sure why he's hated for it. Certainly I'd lay the lions share of the blame for his struggles at the feet of the same coach who had no idea what to do with Vipotnik either
