Being sung by Norwich fans currently....

Just switched to the live coverage of their game at Oxford and two nil up and was hearing the above little ditty being sung...

Kind of irritating to hear this from Norwich supporters for me.

Yes, that will be the same "sideways Sam" who was heavily involved in Norwich's second goal, culminating in a first time pass that got the overlapping left-back behind Oxford's defence to deliver a first-time cross for their new striker to score his second tonight.

Nose bleed Sam in the final third of the opposition's area having the temerity to get involved in precise one-touch football! Impossible, how dare he. The same Oxford that we laboured to a snore draw a few weeks ago.

I’m sure Oxford felt the same about Field joining Norwich as we feel about Bannon going to Millwall.

60% possession, 2.3 xG, just shy of 500 completed passes (for the away side), and a 3-0 away win. All with Sam Field at the heart of the central midfield. I was told that was impossible. That he was the problem with our side, that we need someone better. Norwich fans singing his name, after one start on loan, mind.

Perhaps it was a fluke, perhaps Norwich will be terrible in the future, perhaps Field will struggle and they’ll send him back.

At least the club can still make a final decision in the summer according to the statement the club released…

I liked Sam Field, I'm sad he's left but he's always been a good egg so I'll wish him the best.

Good player and probably suffered the most this year from the Nicolas Madsen revelation.

Hayden probably shades it over Field for me but is older, Varane should but is nowhere near consistent enough so I'd have Field over him. Morgan still an unknown for a consistent Championship starting spot.

I doubt it. Bannon is fading into the past. Field has much more to offer at this level.

How the hell did we miss out on Mo Toure? I thought we had an eye for Aussie talent? 4 goals in 2 games is impressive. He’s also been good for the national team and will be one to watch at the World Cup this year 😉

Looking at transfermrkt, it shows the agent as Wasserman who also have other Norwich players (or ex-players) such as Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz on their books.

They are also agents for the Norwich manager Clement and his assistant. Other managers on their books include Arteta, Eddie Howe and Chris Wilder.

Couldn't find any current QPR players, although they represent Ryan Manning, Harrison Ashby, Jack Colback and Andre Gray

Slightly off topic, but Wasserman are probably in the top three music agencies in the world, representing masses of big artistes. They also have a big presence in the boxing world.

But we're getting offers of £5m odd for Varane... That's the point for the board and to be fair, what a developmental club should be doing.

I love Sam Field and would also have him over Varane, but for whatever reason you're not getting close to that money for him from anyone.

It was more in response to the point that Varane would never start for that poster and is 3rd in their pecking order, but you're right he could come back in the summer and replace a recently sold Varane... I doubt it at the moment though

For me, Sam Field is a far better player than Varane, but unfortunately Field doesn't have a famous brother who played for Manchester United

Maybe he would be worth more if he was Samuel LeChamp (The most common translation for "field" in French is 'le champ' (masculine), used for agricultural fields, land, or a subject area.)

Well, they were big in the music world. Currently losing lots of music clients as Mr Wasserman features in the Epstein files so we'll see when the music stops where it leaves them.

Most sorry I felt for Sam Field was being played out on the right wing by Critchley in a home game.

Also, even more off topic, Casey Wasserman is head of the LA 2028 Olympics organizing committee and has faced calls for his resignation over the Epstein files from a series of LA politicians. The board of LA 28 yesterday issued a vote of confidence in him.

Yes he's limited but I have a lot of time for Sam Field. A decent squad player who always answers the call when needed.

Given our current lack of options in central midfield, I hope this was more a case of the player wanting game time than the club bombing him out.

While I absolutely don't agree with Hayes' post, I actually think the 'cultish' elements of this are the other way around.

I have seen Sam Field absolutely cremated on social media for exactly the same faults Jonathan Varane has, by the same people who constantly go on about Varane being a "baller".

Sam Field has scored 11 goals for QPR in 170-odd appearances. It's a goal every 15 games or so. Should he score more? Absolutely. Does he need to pass forwards more? Absolutely. Is he too negative, too cautious, too sideways? Absolutely. But all those things are true of Jonathan Varane, who has scored against Leicester in the cup, and West Brom in the league, and those are the only goals he has ever scored in his entire professional career (currently 110ish senior appearances).

Field regularly gets absolute pelters for doing exactly the same things Varane does every week.

Similarly, Koki Saito is currently getting a total free pass from the same people who sht post about Paul Smyth half a dozen times a week - and who's contributed more to our season so far out of those two?

The whole ‘scapegoat’ thing is very interesting. It seems there has to be somebody that the fans can blame for whatever shortcomings the team/club have at any given time. Field and Smyth are good examples, but there are others. Many on here ready to write off Walsh before his QPR career had even properly began and were almost gleeful about Wrexham’s late goals as they ‘proved’ he was sh1t (how culpable he was is open to rational debate, but not to the scape-goaters) The same people are silent on his clean sheets.
The vitriol directed at Frey prior to his transfer was better suited to a Joey Barton type than an honest, hard-working pro, who was the ‘right sort’ and -we belatedly found out- did outstanding work for the community. Did he score enough goals? Was he mobile and speedy? The answer of course is a resounding no (if he was a prolific, speedy striker he wouldn’t be at QPR etc etc). Did he deserve the personal abuse and insults - an equally resounding ‘no’
Charlie Kellman was written off last summer, before he kicked a ball in anger. He was League One’s top scorer. We signed Burrell, Kobe and Poku from League One and everyone was jumping up and down with excitement, despite being sniffy about Kellman. Of course with the 20/20 vision that hindsight provides , those ‘sniffers’ can smugly say they were right as Burrell tore up the Championship before his injury and Kobe has had a decent season, while Kellman has generally struggled at Charlton. But NOBODY knew this last summer, yet he was written off.
This list is just recent-it has been ever thus - but even taken current players - Field, Smyth, Walsh Frey - it makes for a depressing pattern of behaviour.
