Just a vanity project for those who can't spend money fast enough.....as long as it's spent in Cardiff of course. All gone a bit quiet on The Swansea Bay Metro project as well or have I missed something ? [Post edited 18 Feb 14:27]

Well judging by online comments, this announcement by Labour seems to have had a completely reverse effect with many saying that it would never happen, and with it ending up with another Starmer U turn, or 'plans' being abandoned like the M4 relief road has been anyhow. The show of contempt for Labour has been rather profound yet again! And many have noticed the fact (as mentioned on here) that it is (YET AGAIN) all about one area of Wales. It was an intelligence insulting display of disrespect for the rest of Wales from Labour. Yet again! And even if the rail investment happened? Who can afford to travel by train? Who prefers to travel by train, because once a train has arrived at its destination there is walking or transport often required to get to destination choices after that. So might as well have travelled by car in the first place. [Post edited 19 Feb 10:01]

If so many from West Wales didn't go shopping in Cardiff and spending their money there it wouldn't be the case.

Totally agree, but this has to have been driven by women who ,certainly in my family, cannot or ignore the fact that its because of this obsession with spending money in Cardiff and then blame the fact that there are no shops in Swansea but conveniently forget that the ones which are here are not supported . I remember IKEA mooting the idea of building a store in Swansea but Cardiff council offered more as incentives so there it went. I cannot believe that all the expansion we see there has been supported via their council tax and it would be interesting to know just how much of Welsh taxpayers money has been used to expand that particular city, I know we as Welsh taxpayers contribute towards the maintenance costs of the barrage equipment in their "bay".

Spot on wr. It baffles me. If questioned on it they'd say we have to go to Cardiff because there are no decent shops in Swansea. The irony would go right over their heads.

Its the more choices available nice eateries there for a girls day out shopping etc, its always had more, even going back 40/50 yrs ago, Swansea was a great place to live, I grew up there, but left in 1983 when I got married, I'd go back tomorrow, but its not the Swansea it once was, I get it that everywhere changes for better or worse, but still.
