There are many who knock the armed forces but analysts suggest that the UK Royal Navy may be strategically stronger than Russia's navy even being completely outnumbered by 81 to 9 submarines.
The Eastern flank may be seen as vulnerable but if things ever escalated then Ukraine would see this as a massive opportunity as Russia would not be able to support two flanks. Russia's population is a little bigger than Germany and Poland's and Poland have a very well organised and trained army.
The idea that we increase our spending (GDP wise) is solid and should be mirrored across Europe. That should be followed by greater initiatives to radically reduce dependency on fossil fuels and render a massive chunk of Russia's income sterilized. |  |

They have an ageing fleet from the 70's and 80's and, in perspective must be viewed in context that Britain’s naval strategy is designed around operating as a core component of the broader NATO alliance, whose combined maritime assets severely outmatch Russia's. | |

Yes. it's taken a while, but that's modern warfare.It took us and the Yanks years to fail to control Iraq and Afghanistan until we eventually got humiliated and kicked out.
