Swans v Hammers : The East Stand remembered, January 1981 16th Oct 2026 14:25
For Swansea supporters heading towards the Vetch on 10 January 1981, there was something extra to look forward to. A new East Stand, a crowd of more than 22,000 and a visit from league leaders West Ham. Toshack’s Swans were second in the table, and the thought of First Division football was becoming difficult to shake. 1

Met up with a couple of ex work colleagues on Wednesday and spoke about time is flying by.

Now this reminder 45 years ago.

I was there then, and there tomorrow with my two sons

Hope for a better result than back then

Point of order: the 0-5 thrashing by Boro’ was at The Vetch not at Ayresome Park. One I’ll never forget.

Yes indeed, I was there, and we could have won that game,

I’ve read the unedited piece and sent out sacking notices.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

As a kid seeing the plans for the stadium and witnessing the first section finished it is such a "tragedy" the ground never got finished. I think the capacity would have been 35000 and what a beauty it would have been. I also loved that simple song Super, Super Swans

I used to work with a guy who used to tell people that he only watched 1/2 the game because he couldn’t see the whole pitch from his cell window 🤦‍♂️

Coincidentally it was the same for the people at the back of the upper east 🤔🤔
