Yeah, have all streets blocked off but with official entrances/exits, have metal detectors/scanners at every entrance/exit and let people come and go.

No one gets stopped but we all get searched (very fair because there is no racial profiling) and the crims still get caught.

It is a fact that police are charged with protecting the public.This means removing people who are armed . If they will not admit there are armed ,then they have to be searched.
If there i a high incidence of knife crime then the public should welcome top search.his applies to all colour of skin.
Black kids in particular are being butchered and Im afraid the price to be paid is by having possible offender stopped.

Sure it was and I myself carry a stanley knife in the car -as its handy.
It is all about attitude.Police have to do it with respect and those searched need to understand why it is done.
Ending S/ would be open season for all kinds of savagery.
The point of my rather rhetorical OP is that there isn't and political activists and community leaders need to make their people understand.

All I ever see is PCSO's and apart from a few they've been pretty useless. For my money I'd use all the PCSO money to emply real police and have them out on the beat. There are 2200 civilain workers in SWP so if 1000 of them are PCSO's they get 20,619 up to over 22,000 per year. I'd rather have an extra 500 real police on the beat. When I do see real police they are always driving past. | |

The bobby on the beat is and was manly a sop to please voters. It can never work now a Police have to watch their backs all the time.
It is one thing to have a friendly rotund bobby ambling around patting kids on the head but quite another to expect him to deal with the volume of work a working constable has to.
People want the Police to attend at a crime immediately ,if not sooner.Pc Plod taking 30 mins to walk from the other end of hi beat isn't an option.
This is true,I used to work Liverpool 8 ,part of which included Toxteth. I used to ,when free of paperwork walk out onto the streets with my tunic ,helmet and signalling stick to check out what was going on. All local shop owners loved me.Could have drank tea all day long. Never had to pay for Chips/meals (although I insisted) . This was mid 80s.Dangerous times. One day, get a message to ay return to nick asap,whereupon I get lectured by the Division Superintendent about going out alone and especially as a supervisory officer. Safe to say I went ballistic .6 month later I got posted somewhere else as a punishment. That Superintendent went on to be the only Chief Constable in recent years to have been sacked . Point being ,senior officers were out of touch then as they are now.

My point is this.
If the police will not stop knife carrying criminals,who will. Nobody had began to address this simple issue.

Police cuts are not the point.Stop Search is.Police are not welcome in many areas of London and for good reason.They cramp the style of criminals.
It is pointless flooding the streets with police if politicians like,Lammy /Abbott detest any stopping and searching of black people.Whites are not part of the equation .

Because that is clearly what it has become, stop and search anyone and the police are accused of racial profiling, or targeting a group of people regardless of colour - has been an issue since 1982 when Toxteth etc kicked off. I think you misunderstood my point. | |

Toxteth erupted July 81 .I was there.We were called in off the streets of Birkenhead and a we looked across the water ,saw the flames. This is about 3 mls across the water.
It was rather frightening and we were the second crew in to assist on Parliament St.
No doubt the Blacks of L8 were looking to kill police officers wherever they could.
I got petrol bombed in the van as we approached Faulkner St and we overturned ..
Then ,we got out of the van and stuck our pieces of plastic protective visors on and got in line . Two of my chums got stabbed from behind and I was very lucky not to make it 3. I survived because I laid the lad out cold and it wasnt with a police issue baton. It was every man for himself and total war.
There was a real possibility of the Mob taking over Liverpool city centre with a view to torching anything and anyone.
Ive had better evenings watching Corrie. | |
