| Cooper on Sheff Utd shortlist of five 17:22 - May 6 with 611 views | KeithHaynes | From SUFC NEWS Chief executive, Stephen Bettis, has already confirmed that current caretaker, Paul Heckingbottom, is one of the names. Meanwhile, Oostende boss Alexander Blessin appears to remain the number one target. That’s despite the fact there are concerns he will not be granted the Governing Body Endorsement required for non-British nationals to work in English football post-Brexit. Michael Appleton is another being considered, but his future could depend on how Lincoln City perform in the League One playoffs. If Lincoln secure promotion to the Championship this season, then Appleton may choose to stay. Slavisa Jokanovic is not on the shortlist, however. This is despite being a seemingly popular option among United fans. Jokanovic’s contract with Qatari side Al-Gharafa expires this summer. The Serbian has also twice been promoted from the Championship in the past with Watford and Fulham. Former manager, Chris Wilder, apparently told the board they should hire the 41-year-old as his successor after leaving the club in March. Cooper has certainly done a fine job since taking charge of Swansea in 2019. Having previously worked in youth football, the Welshman’s step up to the senior game ended with a playoff finish in his first campaign. The Swans lost to Brentford in the semi-finals, but will once again be in the top six this time around. Like with Appleton, how the South Wales side perform in the playoffs could determine Cooper’s future. If Swansea are promoted to the Premier League, then it would be a huge surprise to see him leave. Even if they’re not, with a year still left on his deal at the Liberty Stadium, Cooper may still decide it’s the right place for him.

| Cooper on Sheff Utd shortlist of five on 04:05 - May 7 with 406 views | Dr_Parnassus | He would be barmy not to go if someone came in for him. He could win the league here and people would still be unhappy as they are so entrenched. Claiming they would enjoy it more if we were 16th but passed it more in defence or whatever nonsense they tend to say. Next season expectation levels will be the same even though funds will drastically be reduced and squad broken apart. I’d be off like a shot. | |
