| Jonson Clarke-Harris banned for social media posts 9 years ago 15:45 - Sep 24 with 800 views | KeithHaynes | The 27-year-old was 18 at the time of the comments, which he made between 27 October 2012 and 6 March 2013. As well as the ban and fine, Peterborough United player Clarke-Harris is required to complete a face-to-face education programme. "The comments were insulting, abusive, improper and brought the game into disrepute," said an FA statement.

I’d certainly appeal it if I was representing him, He was not a senior player at the time, although he was an adult, he was only just so. If this was a criminal matter, it would either likely be too old to take action or depending on what it says, not in the interest of justice to do anything about. Banning someone for four games for tweets posted a decade ago is nonsensical. What does it achieve ? How long does someone get for a tweet 5 years ago ? 2 years ago ? Last week ? Surely it must be more ? Or is this just as bad as someone with those thoughts now ? Course not. He should be warned about future conduct (though again meaningless due to how long ago it was), or maybe a one match ban at most. Guess the FA will say they have to take a zero acceptance approach to this as where do you draw the line re ‘historic ‘ ? Answer is a case by case basis, which is why 4 matches here is crazy.

It’s a sign of our times John, but yes an appeal won’t harm him at all, the overall impact on something nine years ago is minimal, and as you say words of advice is surely the best route.

I know that people in law school are now warned about stuff they place on social media as it there for ever. I went to Uni in 97, so glad there were no mobile phones then. When I look, back at some of my views when I was a kid, I’m horrified. I shouldn’t apologise for them now, as i was a kid, and a idiot. People, (sometimes) mature. Not sure it’s a sign of the times, more that they’re trying to do the right thing but have gone too far.

Unless it was 1897 there were mobile phones in 97, did you mean 'smart phones' perchance? Aren't the blokes views now more pertinent thatn when he was a naive kid, yes 18 is a kid to me, just because you are legally an adult doesn't mean you are in any way a grown up! A talking with/to seems far more appropriate to me. Every time this happens I show my son because at 13 he needs to learn that the internet can come back and bite you squarely on the bum years later, decades later even. Maybe this is yet more evidence that the internet is bad and these social networking sites need stricter regulation?

Well yes, camera phones, people recording everything. No one I knew had a mobile phone back then, or if you do it was for if you broke down somewhere. I was free to bit a tit in Uni and it was forgotten the next night when someone else was a tit | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You were free to 'bit a tit' in Uni, I really should have worked harder in school. Sorry Sirjohn, I can't help myself!

| Jonson Clarke-Harris banned for social media posts 9 years ago on 13:21 - Sep 25 with 443 views | Boundy | I've heard a rumour that the Director of Love thy Neighbour at Thames TV (Harry Driver) is being investigated by the police for inciting racial hatred . I made that up but the point is where does this nonsense stop , just how far back before someone ceases to be "offended" | |

Bugger, would’ve got away with it too, had I not publicly outed myself on a public forum.

I'd say no more without resorting to legal advice. I can help
