A freedom of information request made to the ONS asking how many people in the U.K. have died purely from covid, and the answer from the ONS is 17,371.
That’s right 17,371 not the 150,000 the media and politicians want you to believe.

Someone with a manageable condition such as high blood pressure might have died after a Covid infection. That's a Covid death whether they're counted in that figure or not as there's every chance they'd still be alive now if not for the pandemic.
Having said that, the true figure is neither as low as that nor as high as is mooted either IMO. Most people will know of a case or two where someone has been listed as a Covid death and wasn't. I know several who died of heart attacks but went on the figures. Even the excess deaths figure has to be treated with suspicion given the numbers who have died due to missed cancer screenings, or other known issues.
The problem is that there's no set definition of what constitutes a Covid death, nor can there be. With every nation having their own means and systems for recording figures "comparing scores" as some people are wont to do is a pointless exercise anyway.

If someone smokes, drinks and eats too much fails to take any exercise and becomes obese, then catches Covid and succumbs to it in a way that a fit and healthy person of the same age would survive. What is the root cause of death?

We've had conversations on here many times about health and why is it so bad for so many. There are a lot of contributing factors including DNA, I have severe arthritis which it seems I inherited in dodgy genes from my mothers side, all my older relatives had early onset arthritis. In turn I was fit and healthy, I was a postman and I played a lot of sport but then at 44 it all caught up with me.
From my fathers side I inherited a predisposition for high blood pressure and high cholesterol, my grandpa died of a heart attack.
There's financial reasons, work reasons (again, being a postman all that walking in the freezing cold, getting soaking wet didn't help) and environmental reasons too. That's before we start talking about all the junk they put in our food!
I've seen some on here suggest staying fit and healthy will save you from covid. That hasn't always worked though and as you get older it gets harder to stay fit. Even very fit people can suddenly discover an underlying health condition, Foe, Muamba, Eriksen and plenty of other fit young men have had issues.
Covid can be even worse for people with pre-existing conditions, sometimes people don't even know they have a condition. Covid hits you and the combination can be fatal. | |

You seem to be talking like Harold Shipman, totally unethical and a doctor would never do that unless he's a rogue doctor like Shipman. If someone dies and in the last 28 days they are tested positive for Covid then they are counted, if someone dies and are not tested then it will be other causes that's on the death certificate, even if the person had Covid but was not tested positive.
There is a set definition, if you are tested and positive, you might have other underlying illnesses that might have taken you but if tested within 28 days, Covid will be on the Death Certificate. | | | |

The facts don’t back up what you claim. In 2020, 689,829 people died In the U.K. out of a population of 67,200,000. Compare that to 667,799 dying in 1978, out of a population of 57,200,000
