It’s my understanding candidate interviews take place as part of the police national assessment centre process which every candidate has to pass to join, but the tests and interviews will take place online via zoom or whatever. What some forces are doing is dispensing with the requirement for an “in-force” interview over and above the national assessment centre. I believe one of the Welsh Forces might have taken similar steps.
This is all driven by the upsurge in recruiting, Boris imposed ambitious targets for increasing cop numbers and there are severe penalties for failing to achieve the target. Starting salaries of around £23k for a difficult job don’t help. | | | |

I stand back and wonder as to wtf is going on.
Primary reason for Police failings is that they have lost their primarily objective and that is to make criminals lives hell.

I carry out site inductions and although to some they may not appear in important they are , the point being is now there's a big drive towards online inductions and my view is that not speaking to the candidate face to face there no whether the person takes what you're presenting seriously or get an appreciation of their attitude . So if I have my concerns then how can a police officer be employed based on a zoom meeting defies comprehension.
Who ever is in power they're hung for not employing enough police and hanged if they do

Mate of mine’s daughter just finished Uni this year and has been accepted on to the graduate detective entry course with a big force. They’ll be tutored etc, but they’ll soon end up managing serious crime investigations.
The young lady concerned is a bright girl, but Uni to managing a serious crime caseload in months is nuts. We’ve seen what’s happened to the Probation Service, hopefully the police wont go the same way.
