The man they didn’t want in August is suddenly wanted again ! 24th Dec 2023 08:00
Russell Martin and a host of familiar faces will square up to his old club Swansea City on Tuesday ( KO 3pm ) with the howls of anger towards him now in the dim and distant past from Southampton fans a mere memory. After a lengthy unbeaten run the Saints are now in the top six and fighting for one of those two top automatic spots. 0

the Russell Martin love in lives on.
Despite having a superior squad and dominating possesion as ever yesterday Southampton failed to score from open play getting their sole winning goal against a struggling QPR fro a route 1 free kick

Poll: Should Coleman ask Curt for advice/help?

Leave it vetch, he's gone mate.

FYI if I was there I wouldn't be clapping him, he isnt our manager anymore, double double has long gone in my mind.

We were mostly crap under Martin.
We couldn't buy a win for most of last season. He managed to go from 2 consecutive play off finishes to mid to lower half.
The only entertainment was from the defensive comedy of errors.
Sadly our incompetence of those running the club is currently making the seasons under him look like halcyon glory days

The run we had late last season, far from being the vindication of Martin and his methods that his supporters would like us to believe it to be, was actually the most damning indictment.

For all of last season we had a squad of players capable of delivering results and performances like that. No matter how much people whine about the January transfer window, or complain that he wasn't backed, the simple, unavoidable conclusion remains that he already had the tools at his disposal to deliver a campaign at the top end of the table.

Our failure last year rests entirely on him and his arrogance. His insistence on trying to make his "process" work rather than just using what he had properly.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Without doubt the most arrogant manager we have ever had.
Belligerently pursuing his "process" to the detriment of the club.
I agree, we had a good squad, one that was capable of so much more.
He wasted several high profile loans and permanent signings in order to enforce a style of play that suited no one.
The defensive errors that were repeated Ad Naseum for 2 seasons should have been heralded as the new "Swansea way" under him

Well he does deserve applause for the double double but more for his comments on our owners.

Martin called the owners out in early February and was always going to pay the price after that.

Everyone is entitled to have their own feelings on it. I’m with FB, but then I’ve seen a few managers come and go over the years. I remember being a kid and going down the vetch with my old man, all I wanted to see was the Swans and tbh I couldn’t have given a flying g wotsit who the manager was.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

As a previous defender Martin didn't arrange his defence to suit the players he had. The club had addressed the glaring lack of centreback from his first season but that would be no excuse for his first season relatively poor showing with his unwillingness to use players who had good experience at Championship level under Potter and Cooper, I would clarify that comment maybe he was under direction to cut costs to balancing the books for the good incomings of Downes, Ntcham, Piroe, Paterson and Obefemi but that would be just speculation.
Martin's second season more or less continued with the rotation of players to try and play in a particular style which while could provide goals which should have been expected given the players further up the park, he was unable to provide an adequate defence, he did fall on a winning streak after certain players got injured forcing him into making changes to his preferred choices but reverted back with the resounding justification win against 10 man C**d**f and it took him until the end of the season to try something different almost two full seasons to get things right?
Sheehan four games 7 points two wins one draw and a loss in a game we threw away, if we hadn't we could of had at least 8 points and maybe should of had 10 given the way we played against Middlesbrough. 7points was not a bad return and 10 points would have been excellent.

It will be a big test for Sheehan but for once it would be nice for ex Swan Martin''s old players scoring against him rather than the usual ex Swans players scoring against us.

Manager of first team I saw was Ron Bugess
Didn’t know that until Trevor Morris took over.

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not
