People running away as the driver set fire to the road around him, and of course the police running towards him and taking him out by wrestling him to the ground.

Some people's opinions of the police is based on their interactions with them . Some good some bad , but the Police regardless should be beyond reproach and I'm afraid now a days that not the case for far too many. I wish it was different but its not nor ever has been.

Some is the word.I accept that.Trust me,Ive known some wrong uns BUT to say ALL are pigs is deeply insulting . If you are brought up in a criminal family ,as many are,you hate the police from the time on the breast. It is bred into kids. They are brought up never to trust ,speak or interact with them,no matter what.To be a "grass" is the worst thing for them. Police can and would never ever say or do anything right to those families.

If a police officer does something wrong, then guaranteed their colleagues will turn a blind eye to it or help cover it up if they can. Doesn't that make them bad too?

Yes it does. But of course criminals family think their children are boisterous, easily led, would not hurt a fly , are misunderstood. It is never their childrens fault always somebody else. What hope do those children have to lead a normal life

Wrong.Very wrong. If you think all police officers lie or somehow back up their colleagues at all times you are so deluded its painful. I can tell you the Complaints people in Police have a great time hounding any malpractice or breaches of code and with good reaon;locking up fellow police officers looks great on a CV. Still,Police still play by the rules whereas the scum do not. Good luck folks when you are a victim. And no...Police have to do nothing in a criminality family to be hated;it is bred into them. The police complaints procedure is a waste of time for the public. The IPCC has no credibility at all Police officers will always back up their colleagues and close ranks, just like any profession does Sorry if this upsets you , being an ex plod, but it's the reality for many

Not sure of rooting for the criminals but there are many everyday folk who no longer trust the police to do their jobs without fear or favour . Once you lose that then that's when the generation resentment can manifest itself. Look at London recently where there appears to be a two tier system of policing , bending the knee seemingly supporting a political group, inaction against those who desecrated monuments/memorials or watching on whilst a protest was held outside the French embassy held by a group of muslims then we have scenes of peaceful protesters being kettled and attacked with batons .
