Cooper regularly picked Smith, Fulton and Grimes together After janauary. One could consider them all defensive midfielders. If Cooper wanted to be more attacking it is reasonable to replace Smith 0 goals this season with Arriola. Smith played 40 games with 0 goals and 4 assists.
Lack of goals from midfield was a problem all season. Lack of support from the owners is not a credible argument.
