Two week international break, where I think we’re only missing Manning and Brandon Cooper. Squad will be set for the next few months by Tuesday night. The players affected by covid should all be recovered soon. Fingers crossed no more outbreaks. Not that he’s been making excuses, but there won’t be many once he’s got a settled squad with a few more of his own players.

It is not the "loss", it is the manner of the loss. The holes in his defensive and midfield approach were exploited for everyone to see.

Our lack of fitness and preparation was exploited. Too early to properly judge the intended approach.

It has to. We had one fully fit defender yesterday and he got injured 10 minutes in. Manning, Naughton, Bennett and Cabango have all had covid. Cooper was out with his ankle until late in preseason, and played in both games where he was being rested. Even if we lose more than we bring in over the next few days the squad will look healthier by the time we come back. Touch wood. Fulton and Grimes had covid. Downes still isolating. Smith and Walsh slightly longer term, same as Connor. We're missing a lot of personnel we'd expect to be elevating us when fit and firing. edit: Paterson as well, limited preseason on trial at Boro. Until you rhyme out who is unavailable and not 100% we don't realise how thin we are, the covid lot do explain why we were lethargic yesterday. I too am hoping the next 10 days training will make a difference.

It takes time to perfect, yes… but not to show clear signs of it being the correct approach. That should be almost instant, as it has been all the other times we have changed the approach with a new manager. Bob Bradley aside, who lasted 12 weeks… can you think of another Swansea manager who has struggled to implement a new style on any sort of realistic competitive level early on? We shouldn’t be trying to keep our heads above water struggling to breathe. Nothing to do with knives being out, it’s just supporters appraising the tactics game by game and looking for signs of progression. Currently a lot of what is going on doesn’t make a great deal of sense and is incredibly easy to play against on even the most basic of levels. You can make those observations and still back the manager to change it.

We need to adapt to that though and get a game plan assembled that plays to the strengths of the players we are forced to play. There were times when we had to adapt when Ayew was absent last year, and Guehi. We won most of them from memory. There needs to be a bit more nouse and intelligent planning than what we are seeing at the moment. Football management is all about adapting to suspensions, injuries etc and making the best of what you have.

Agreed re having to adapt to injuries and suspensions as most teams go through it during the season but I think after looking at the list that jasper posted Martin has been dealt a tough hand in the start of his swansea managerial career, hopefully in 13 days he will have a stronger fully fit squad who are more in touch with his philosophy.
| Next 3 matches on 18:09 - Aug 29 with 432 views | WalterBoyd | A few are blaming cooperball and Martin having to undo the way we played the last 2 years, which was boring as hell, but that does not explain how badly we passed and gave the ball away needlessly yesterday. I am sure if we had won a few more games with the same players all the excuses of covid, tired players, unfit players would not be used. Are we the only team in Championship who have had covid, players not keeping themselves fit, players refusing to be vaccined ? I am worried about lack of passion and desire and application. As long as Russell isn't the type of manager to blame everyone but himself when we lose and then take all the glory when / if eventually it actually works. Reminds me of someone. | | | |

As Martin said post-match, you can carry 1 or 2 but when it's 4 or 5 struggling to keep up you're going to have a hard time. The combination and volume of issues we've got made it "one game too far" after two hard-fought wins. Apart from the late arrival of a manager none of our issues are unique. But we're not the only side struggling either. Forest and Sheff Utd have much bigger and more expensive squads than us. After the Bristol win he was the most critical he had been of the players and their approach, so not sure what your issue is there. Was the opposite of "taking all the glory". Sure, he wouldn't make excuses if we had won, so what?
| Next 3 matches on 18:40 - Aug 29 with 409 views | WalterBoyd | He couldn't take the glory for the Bristol match as the players did not play his style of football, that would have been hypocritical. They adapted to the circumstances to get a result, bless them. Anyway its not about results for him at the moment, it's about entertaining possession based football. | | | |
