| 9/11 : One day in America - National Geographic 21:42 - Sep 1 with 1011 views | Brynmill_Jack | Very intense and moving programme showing real-time footage in the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Centre attack. Compulsive viewing - some amazing stories from Firemen, Ambulance first responders Police and members of the public - some who were on the street when it happened and those who survived although trapped inside - some as far as 80 floors up. Chilling but incredible. | |

I think with this it was different as you could put the TV on and just watch it live or the 1,000's of people could just look out the window and watch it. Thank god this wasn't the case in the two world wars we will never know what some of these real hero's really went through.

Fair enough and to be honest I was expecting the same. I hadn’t seen this side of the day before - for instance there was a newly qualified paramedic who’d just turned 21 describing his feelings at “seeing things nobody should see” . His ambulance was already occupied when a man threw himself in front of it. There was a young girl on the street with part of her side and backside missing. It turned out one of the aircraft’s undercarriage had fallen and skimmed her as she was walking on the street. He was convinced she was going to die - they got her into the hospital and went back to the disaster zone. A couple of weeks late he found out she had survived and was in the hospital and their meeting was of course poignant and emotional. The lad is still trying to come to terms with it all today but he’s fighting on. I suppose we all felt the terror watching it on news 24 - however there were so many different perspectives caught on camera. The news reporter standing at the base of the towers as the first collapsed was surreal. Other people’s footage from New Jersey and just a couple of blocks away was also a real eye opener. Great documentaries , I couldn’t take my eyes of them to be honest.
