Amazing, not one mention of the fact that Wind and Solar are not performing and no mention of the Subsidies paid to them which increase the prices.
No mention of the Carbon Tax that makes Fossil Fuels more expensive either.

As an article about reality it is pathetic, the only truth is the Energy Poverty paart.

Good to see the new interconnect between Norway and the UK was commissioned and is now operational.
It will supply the UK with power when Norway's hydroelectric power stations have surplus energy and will supply Norway with power when the UK has a surplus of wind power.

Today at 2pm renewable were supplying 60% of the UK energy with gas only 16%. In fact solar was producing more power than gas.

The new interconnect was providing 2.3% of UK energy.

Shows what can be done with the cooperation of our European friends.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

Wow, that is a whole week of wind power where it is supposed to be, what about the 3 months before that?
How is Solar doing now?
As to getting Energy from Europe, wait and see how "friendly" they are when they don't have any to give us.

Think I would rather rely on Netherlands and Norway rather thsn Russia.

Russia now supplies most of Germany's gas supplies.

The UK only imports around 50% of its gas none of which is supplied by Russia.

The Netherlands rely on Russian gas

Netherlands produces over 75% of its gas from its own gas fields.

Thanks for posting the 2 links, they make concerning reading.

Britain is very exposed to the fluctuations of the market and we have by far the lowest gas storage capacity of the major European nations at 8.9 Terrawatt hours, Spain has almost 3 times much more storage whilst Italy (top) have 19 times more storage Germany and France have 17 and 13 times more. We’ve let our National critical infrastructure decay.

Boris was on TV over the weekend talking about how successive governments had failed to grasp the nettle and make difficult decisions when it comes to energy and he’s right. (He didn’t name names, but I believe the governments under Cameron and May we’re in his firing line.) With the electrification of rail, introduction of electric cars demand for electricity is going to go through the roof and we won’t have enough capacity, we already buy a load of French electric, what happens if Macron or his successor decide to pull the plug?

I firmly believe some of the current energy issues (gas and coal) relate to Russia making a point re NordStream 2. We need a long term cohesive strategy to take the country forward.

We have one that is why we are building more nuclear power stations to support base load. More wind farms are also being built. France supplies only 3% of our electricity and mainly only because it is cheaper than producing it from Uk gas powered power stations. Our electricity ftom France is from its nuclear power stations. We also receive power from interconnects with Belgium, Netherlands and Norway which total about 6% at peak times. We did of course export power to those three countries when our wind turbines produce excess power .

We are now building 1 new power station in Somerset and there are proposals for 2 more, but the can has been kicked down the road so far it’s astonishing and the potential for a “lights out” scenarios has been increasing. We’ve been a net importer of electricity for 11 years importing almost 9% of our electricity as you pointed out, with gas rocketing in price and our relationship with Europe more fractious we need to be self sufficient.

Wind power is a collosal con job and gigantic waste of cash, not to mention an environmental blight that kills birds and ruins landscapes.

In the absence of fusion tech (give it another 10-15 years) we have to go nuclear. I like the idea of the Rolls Royce small reactors, but really we need to start future proofing against the increase in electric transport, and we need to do it now.

I also like the idea of tidal power, which is reliable and predictable. If half the cash spunked on windmills over the years had gone into that we'd be much further along.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Off shore wind power is the cheapest electricity supplied to national grid. Tidal is possibility but estimate cost per kilowatt for the Swansea lagoon are higher than the current estimates for the new nuclear power stations. The environmental lobby don't like the lagoon either claiming fish will be killed as well as being an eyesore. It was national environment Wales which actually killed of the Swsnsea lagoon by sitting on the application approval for so long that the planning approval ran out.

At 1130 today renewable energy including wind and solar are providing 39% of UK energy, gas 32%.

We must have a balanced supply of energy from many sources to supply energy 24 hours a day. It should also be as far as possible not dependent on foreign influences like world gas supply.

In 2019, almost three-quarters of the EU’s imports of natural gas come from Russia - accounting for 41 percent.

"We have one that is why we are building more nuclear power stations to support base load. "

We are currently building 1 Nuclear Power Station, based on the crap French EDF design that has been beset by problems for years.

"France supplies only 3% of our electricity and mainly only because it is cheaper than producing it from Uk gas powered power stations."

Totally clueless, you obviously have absolutely no idea what we pay for Wind Power, especially Off Shore Wind Power.
