Pato for arguments sake is contracted for another 18 months at £7k per week (reported approx). Until June 2023.

This falls into the realms of football employment law and EFL regulations which is complex but surely something his agent should would be exploring. Swansea could to lubricate the deal release his for less if it was in their mutual interest presumably.

Based on the figures you’ve given, if he earns £12k per week in a new contract by the time tax, NI is paid he will take home £6.5k per week which is less than the £7k it will cost him to buy his contract out assuming he has to repay his wages in full. OK but Swansea might not ask him to repay his full salary in full and come to a compromise arrangement. With only 6 month on his deal he would only have needed £182,000. Without this option he has no choices left. | |

Fair enough, but it doesn’t make sense either. The press have speculated the Club valued Paterson at £750k, if that is the case and they want £750k why would they allow him to buy out his contract and leave for £182k to which is over half a million less. | | | |
