Supposedly future England at the time.

Which only highlights the small margins that exist between run of the mill and elite players

He got a cap I recall. And Shelvey. Both bought for £5m.

Alfie was named in a squad for a pre 2018 World Cup friendly, but never received a cap

Didn't his knee lock at one stage in a game with us?

During a pre-match warm up if my memory is correct.

I liked Alfie a lot, a player of great potential IMO, unfortunately, injuries stopped him from reaching his full potential.

I wish the lad well.

This.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

He will still be getting some decent money at Wycombe, nothing like Fulham but I’m sure he will be good to pay his electric.

I was talking about his playing career rather than his earning career.

That he may, but it's still an unfortunate waste of potential.

Personally I don't much care what players (or anyone else tbh) earn and I don't hold it against them. It's largely irrelevant unless they're telling me that I should earn less.

I agree, but even now if he has good financial advice he can live without financial worry from his income. For me, he is a part of the grass is greener player but what a decent price the club got for him.

One of those maybe the swans could have signed this season and done some decent work with for a nominal wage. We’ve had a lot worse as a centre back.

The word "firesale" should be banned on this website. It is completely misleading.

Again, I'm not sure why his financial situation is relevant?

Whether he has £5m in the bank or £5, it's still a sad situation when a player of his ability is so plagued with injury that he's dropping as far down the leagues as he has at the age of only 28.

It's not though, is it. It was the misfortune that we had to (and still need to) because we lacked a coherent transfer strategy towards the end.
