The options from the bench were limited for us in both choices and contribution. The last 2 games have taken a lot out of these players and the FA Cup games comes at the perfect time.

If Grimes had played for Burnley today we would have been mullered with their pacy WB's. Joe was blowing hard and perhaps we could have got another 10 mins but why risk it. But what a performance from him.

| My view from today's game on 19:49 - Jan 2 with 1185 views | Boundy | Certainly a game of two haves , 1st half even though we were were trailing that round had to go to us ,they relied purely on pace which worked but offered little else going forward ,more concerned with stopping us play , weak refferring which allowed cynical fouls go unchecked except when it came to us, nice to see players get into the refs' ear although he was more concerned with where the throw ins were being taken than the fact the repeated foul play continued. We had them rattled a few time but Piore being Piroe this season looked lost at times. Second half a much higher press from them although again they created very few chances but did a good job limiting ours. A game too far for some players imo but pleasing to see the effort | |

| My view from today's game on 19:50 - Jan 2 with 1185 views | jackal | Excellent game. I thought that the ref let a lot go on both sides and the game was the better for it. Joey was magnificent. Some of his tackles were fierce and credit to the ref for allowing them. | | | |

Down arrowed in error Completely agree. Good game to watch. Joeys booking at end of 1st half was always going to affect us. Hooking Fulton at the same time meant we lost our bite in midfield when I thought we were on top

| My view from today's game on 21:36 - Jan 2 with 1001 views | BillyChong | Good for a neutral, frustrating as a swans fan. Our bench needs strengthening if we are to compete in this division. It’s an unforgiving league with quick turnarounds. The yanks need to understand this. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| My view from today's game on 23:08 - Jan 2 with 902 views | Badlands | Options from the bench limited … why? Martin hasn’t played loans, hasn’t played recent buys and has been unable to manage others. We have a very good squad. | |

| My view from today's game on 08:15 - Jan 3 with 727 views | RichardO | Thought we played a very good side today who have a system that has been successfully used this season by a manager who was a quality player and who like Arteta has learnt enough from their football careers especially at Man City under Pep to guide his team with the quality of the players he has to the highest position in the league again like Arteta. So how did we play against them. We correctly set up as a back four, best formation with the players we have which when used has seen us win games and recover from going behind at times. We conceded a sloopy free kick, bad pass yes given Darling for heading back to his goal so it was on the wrong side of Darling wrong footing him. Quality free kick pace power and accuracy, fair chance that would beat most goalies. During the game we pressed them sensibly sometimes exposing their weaknesses but not over committing so they weren't able to switch the ball quickly from one side to the another to overload ours players allowing very few times more than one on ones , the second goal we kepted the press sensible but Manning missed his tackle usually the likes of Cooper( Bidewell use to do it previously) covered him we managed to get players back on that side of the pitch but the Burnley player switched play to the other side creating the overload on Lati giving the receiving player time to again hit a ball with pace power and accuracy should Benda have saved it most of us think so. Thought we went toe to toe with them in the rest of the first half stifling them but they were more intent on defending their lead. Lovely long range strike(a Martin no no) and a poachers follow up are we back in the game, yes very much so. Second half for Burnley the best form of defence was attack and that is what they did with the high press, did we weather that storm, yes, again all good teams have their time on top in games. We started to get back in the game causing them to defend again but then we made the substitutions maybe when they were not needed but maybe they were to protect our hardest working and best players. Cundle, Ntcham, Congreve qualty players who most think are good enough, came on but the shape wasn't quite right and we became passive and the introduction of Sorinola did give us more shape and balance giving us a chance of forward impetus maybe helped by Cabango pushing forward and finding Congreves clever feet and Ntcham being more central able to join him in attack with a bit more composure in the last minute he may have found a player in the middle instead of shooting from an almost impossible angle. So if we can play well against the top team in the division and really go toe to toe with them with the players we have subs and all, cannot see why we can't push on. We have some cover all around the pitch but think we are short of cover on the left for Manning but playing a back four surely Obgeta must be looked at, in the cup game? Martin has seen two good performances in a row playing a back four surely the formation best suited to the players we have. Going to listen to his press conference see if what I said makes sense to him. | | | |
