There are a lot of Brits who told me they’d never return to the UK. I’m doing a 3 month secondment starting in 10 days not sure the steaks & red wine is going to be good for the heart.

My wife lost a friend in a drive by shooting in the early hours in Joberg, took a route home through a notorious neighbourhood by mistake.

Indeed staying in Joberg & without doubt you don’t go out walking at night. Anyway back home for a week.

We went 4 years ago we hired a car and did the garden route drove from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and then back but more in land. A beautiful country to live and visit if you have money or a half tidy job we stopped at Mossel Bay, Storms River, Platternburg Bay and did a safari. Unfortunately came across some very old school racists and it does have a certain feel about it that something could kick off at anytime.

Ate a lot of ostrich steaks out there very nice and lean no fat. Cape Town is surprisingly not as big as you think, table mountain is well worth the visit but get up there early doors before the tourists, went to visit Roben Island but missed out on the bad weather but been told since its not that much, the rugby museum is a good visit well put together and interesting, the first night we stayed there we went into town and walked back to our digs and told the owner he went mad with us and said after dark you walk nowhere only Uber. You do notice that all the bars, restaurants...etc are full of white people and black people serving. As a country they are multi culturally years behind us

Us Brits are often so naive when we travel overseas

Thanks for that, hopefully get to see a bit of the country but work schedule is pretty hectic Uber everywhere last time although hire car when I’m out there next. I’m based on Johannesburg but we have warehouses in Bloemfontein Durban & Cape Town which I have to visit. Hoping when I go to Cape Town I have the weekend off so I can see a bit of it.
