Russell Martin’s situation 09:43 - May 26 with 1998 viewsKeithHaynes

I must admit I’ve read some blithering nonsense recently on this situation. Especially elsewhere.

He is still in Swansea and people are asking the question why ?

It’s almost as if the smallest of thought processes aren’t working.

‘Should he be in Southampton sorting things out ‘

I’m going to be rude, are people that stupid they don’t realise that when you’re a multi millionaire you don’t sort things, people sort things for you ? And on a club point of view he can’t sort nothing there, he isn’t the Southampton manager. Seles is.

He is moving (eventually) to Southampton on a multi million contract, he is intelligent enough to ensure all manner of things like schooling, housing, etc are done by others as well as his other financial demands. He just advises and manages it in the simplest terms. He was seen yesterday on various occasions in Swansea.

The hold up is very clear, we reported it yesterday, this has gone on for some time, as of yesterday evening it was still stalemate. Southampton aren’t holding off on making it official, they don’t need to, they would have announced it by now. There have been clear and obvious sticking points. This isn’t really aimed at anyone on here, but away from here there’s some people with the strangest of viewpoints who don’t even know the facts that have in the public domain for weeks.

Unbelievable.

A lot of voices blaming our owners for a delay because they are holding out for a high compensation. (Quite right we get the best price but I'd not be worried if we got nothing as long as he goes).
But, didn’t Southampton say they would be waiting until after the final game of the season to reorganise?
Also they have warned of major job losses and their finances are a bit of a mess. EUFA are monitoring the club.
It looks Sports Republic have just put £4. Million into the club to assist with operational cost!
There is a board shake up happening.

Think the people commenting are anxious that it may not happen.
I would expect as stated let Selles have his final game and leave.
Then announce Mr Martin as their new manager/messiah next week.
As long as our ''process'' is in place to employ a new manager is sorted quickly that's fine.

Can't be doing with another process and all that nonsense.

Lets just get a manager in win some games and entertain that will do for me.

Some processes take longer than other , as we've seen

It's just a word that basically got Russ out of any accountability.

3 months one win or whatever it's a process whilst all along angling for a way out.

It was obvious what was happening but plenty were hoodwinked.

Fkr me there is a lot more to this negotiation than just Martin and his staff.
I’m going with that.

Im with you Keith but the issue is in todays world of social media and when the press and media come out with statements intimating the deal is done and announcements made shortly some folk will get itchy.

Thats the problem in todays world too much access to stuff and too many persons supposedly in the know.

The old days were best ....As you say there are possibly player deals being discussed just like when Martinez went to Wigan and took Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez with him so this too all needs to be tied up not forgetting there is still a present incumbent in post so there are some legalities.

As someone else has said Im more interested in the talks and planning we have on getting Martin's replacement ...its obvious he will not be our manager come the start of the season so our focus should be on that though I guess many will say we should have had this virtually sewn up too

Some processes just don't work at all and have to be abandoned before teams can start getting results, as we've seen.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Even going back to the pre-PL era negotiations took ages with Huw Jenkins who bartered as if he was in Swansea market when spending cash on a player, whilst selling a player he was always looking to get top dollar.
Remember midfielder Andy Burgess of Rushden Diamonds, Grant Holt and Craig Dawson when they were playing for Rochdale.
Negotiations with agents and their assistants have worsened, and guess what, they are all getting a cut from clubs, selling or buying.

If he wants to take any players with him Southampton will have to pay up. If they can't or won't and it causes the deal to collapse I'd be disappointed but like every other time, I'd get on with it.

It's not required for us to sell players at a price the buying team wants us to charge, we are about getting the best price like every other selling club.

For my money though, much as I like him, if we can get a decent price for Piroe then we have to sell. he won't sign a new deal so he has to go.

As for Martin's situation, I don't really care. he is to me (already) our ex manager and what I want to know is who will be next. Simple as that. I want it done in plenty of time so the new person can assess the squad, tell the owners what they want and have a full pre-season so we are prepared.

This is exactly the response we need
Get him gone
Forget
Reset
We are proper
