I would say that it's a decent deal for the guy and was probably not on the cards until Luton got promoted. Can't blame the guy.

He’s free, so whatever signing on fee he gets, and like Manning it will be healthy, plus a good premier league wage it’s a great signing.

Well great for Ogbene but if he can cut it in the EPL remains to be seen. Good luck to him. I'd have done exactly the same if it were a choice etween the EPL and EFL.

| Ogbene-Luton on 21:40 - Jun 27 with 1446 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Ogbene was signed by Brentford in June 2018 for pennies. Ivan Toney was also cheap and Robert Dickie. Potter joined Swansea in June 2018 and Swansea had Kyle McCauley. Potter I suspect demanded control of transfers, and they were four players Cooper drummed out of the club in double quick time. Only Celina had a run. £7m was spent on Celina, Declan John, Barrie McKay and Asoro. The four "non negotiable" Musketeers. Swansea would have gone straight back to the PL if McCauley had done a better job with his £7m. Imagine Ogbene, Toney, Dickie and a decent keeper alongside James, McBurney, Fer MvDH and Grimes. McCauley has now with his chums blown millions more at Chelsea. Hopefully at long last Swansea will have decent recruitment team in place for a period. [Post edited 27 Jun 2023 23:26]

Potter, officially, had little or no say in transfers.

I presume you are talking about Chelsea. Pochettino seems to be accepting responsibility and tidying up the mess Potter left behind. Cooper cleaned up for Potter after the 0-5 surrender at QPR in the FA cup. Perhaps he did not accept the terms Potter accepted? Kyle McCauley who was Potters man at Swansea is listed as an employee of Chelsea. I do not accept a manager saying "nothing to do with me Guvnor". Managers almost always have an input.

Toney was cheap you say, i thought the deal could have reached 10 million with add ons, not my idea of cheap. Dickie's fee was undisclosed. Suspect what you like about Potter but he had no control over transfers. Ogbene managed 7 appearances for Brentford before being moved on, first to Exeter (13 apps) on loan then Rotherham.

How were they the ‘four non negotiables’? Yan Dhanda signed before them. £7m was roughly what Clucas left for that summer. Loose change from the fire sale.

We were still under water after the "fire sale"; money coming in dwarfed by money due to go out and the ship was only righted after DJ and McBurnie were sold. Maybe if we'd received the big fees expected for Fernandez and Ayew we could have wasted £7m on a poor man's Matt Grimes though. Potter and his laptop man had a shocker that summer. Dhanda was signed on before we approached Potter.

I am returning to the summer of 2018. I am proposing the idea that McCauley''s very poor work was critical in Potters' failure to get Swansea back to the Premier league. That Summer Toney left Newcastle to Peterborough and Ogbene left Limerick for pennies. Robert Dickie left Reading. All were cheap good value signings. McCauley delivered 4 poor footballers even fans could see immediately that three were sub standard. Dhanda was better than all of them. Potters recruitment man Mccauley is at Chelsea. He came with Potter. So what was he doing there?. Over-seeing things for Potter perhaps? . Potter was the MANAGER. He oversaw a calamitous transfer window. He is happy to claim it was nothing to do with him of course. Pochettino would not sign up unless he was allowed to clear up the mess Potter left behind. Cooper ditched all four Potter signing. within on window. Cooper is a mini Potter at Forest and had Scott with him for a while The narrative is that 3 managers have left because of a lack of support. All sulked in January in 2019 2021 and 2023. All left the club after the window Potter sulked after failing to persuade Levien to spend an extortionate £7m for Ryan Woods who's careers fell like a stone after that window. Levien a has seen all the January blues before.
