The team is on a roll and I think Harrison has still got a big part to play . No one just walks into a winning team. Do you agree with this Newcastle article?

Half the player Key is going forward, and certainly no better defensively. Useful for that period before we signed three left-sided players but otherwise a very poor loan for us and the player.

He is a developing young player who really should have been used sparingly to get him up to speed but he was shoved in at the deep end, 2 not bad performances one where he lost his confidence completely(home games) but then again the team shape had yet to come together, still think he should be used as appropriately ie when we have a number of games in quick succession using the squad wisely we're injury doubts occur.

Who cares? We have him for this season only. If he's not good enough he's not good enough.

At the moment I’d agree with you, though he is highly rated, so I’m hoping there’s more to him than we’ve seen so far. I’m all for loan players, but they have to come in and make an impact. If he’s not forcing his way into our starting eleven or at the very least coming off the bench most games, then he’s not developing for anyone and he’d be better off at another club or in Newcastles reserves. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Nice response Thanks I'm not as keen on loans myself

Personal opinion is that if we go into a season with no realistic chance of promotion or relegation (which is very unlikely) then don’t bother with them. If we’ve got 6 games left and the season is dead, give the like of Congreve game time. Any other time, the success of the club takes priority over individual players. Plus having the likes of Humphreys and Ashby, who aren’t ready for Chelsea and Newcastle yet, means we can loan out Brandon Cooper, who will develop further playing for Leyton Orient than being a backup for us. Not exactly like for like, but you get my point. I know not everyone will agree.

The last bit another club yes. A lot of premier league clubs are happy to see their players in and around a match day squad, experiencing what goes on, learning new training techniques, seeing how players are at other clubs, interaction, fending for themselves away from home ( as much as a pampered footballer does ) Yes, getting games is important, but it’s not the be all. There’s a huge difference between training in a first team squad and being a reserve at their clubs.

| Harrison Ashby Has been class on 09:37 - Oct 13 with 1529 views | RichardO | Don't really like developing players for teams from the higher divisions but if they serve a purpose as Ashby did at the start of the season then so be it, Guehi was dropped until he found his feet. In the early season we were playing Key out of position to accommodate Ashby while also playing the 3/5 at the back which didn't work in the previous two seasons and didn't in the early season friendlies or at the begin on the season, some would say it was the defence or style of play but you could say that the midfield wasn't functioning properly. New players, new options look a different team, do we need Ashby in the squad to cover the right back position I think so, you could say we have Abdulai but I think he is a better option in attack rather than defence. Long season ahead so we may still have a use for Ashby. [Post edited 13 Oct 2023 9:51]
