Concerning indeed, especially as the state pension is not subject to means testing. Some are suggesting that this could open the way for a future move to limit the pension depending on additional income/wealth, as opposed to the current basis of years of contributions accumulated. It seems like another case of political ineptness by Ministers from a party that depends on the grey vote.

We live in a welfare state and in a Welfare state paying benefits there will be instances of fraud.

If this is the same issue the DWP will be allowed to inspect the assets of people claiming benefits to check they are eligible for benefits. It no doubt runs into 10 s of £billions. It would be used I assume only in cases where fraud are suspected.

Similar share information is seen in pooled credit information with bad debtors.

As a individual issue it seems reasonable to me. However there should be a twin approach where super rich tax avoiders are also targeted. Offshore bank accounts for example. It is suspected that these accounts works for the ruling elite who are cut some slack by the HMRC on the instruction of parliamentarians.

State pensions in my eyes are not "benefits". This income has been 'earned' by National insurance payments.

So you think it's ok for the DWP to be able to look at the bank accounts of innocent people, people they don't suspect of any crimes?

You are just the kind of sheep the politicians love. You'd give away your right to privacy even though, I assume, you have done nothing wrong and don't intend to?

You should fight for your personal freedoms, not give them away like some mindless supplicant...please Prime Minister take my freedoms away!

Credit information isn't access to your bank account, it's information about what payments you have missed. Credit rating agencies cannot lookminto your bank account.

The pension ISN'T a benefit, you are right, it is an entitlement you have paid for all your working life. The govt should have no right to cut anybody's pension. If they do bring this in the earnings limit to cut a pension should be very high, over 1 million per year, in my opinion.

I read today that the amount of cash machines are going to reduced due to the amount of transactions being made by card, Swansea has now only one Nat West Bank in town, this has only two counters which reinforces the future of cash .

The proposed legislation is far ranging and in my opinion needs to be re-visited.

I don’t think many people would have an issue with checking the bank accounts of welfare claimants if it’s a means related benefit, however the state pension is a completely different matter as the pension is not a benefit, it’s an entitlement and is not based on income, savings or anything like that.

Broad ranging legislation such as is being proposed is in my opinion bang out of order. In cases where fraud is suspected the government can secure the info via a court order, alternatively those people applying for a particular means tested benefit should be required to provide details of their bank accounts as part of the application, that way you’re not roping in the rest of the country in fishing exercise law.

The savings are estimated to be around £600m over 5 years, not an insignificant amount but it is dwarfed by the cash that was wasted with the Covid loan fraud.

We should defo be targeting benefit fraud as well as the other types of financial skullduggery including tax evasion etc. if they want to target fraud, what about asking those individuals who are claiming to provide their finger or a thumb print at the point of application, this would ensure multiple applications in bogus names etc could be eliminated.
