Pick Your SCFC 'Favourite' X1 10:44 - Nov 11 with 1120 viewsstreetlyjack

It's not much fun being a SCFC fan at the moment, the football is slow, sideways and about exciting as watching paint dry. It hasn't always been like this and the good times will return at some point soon hopefully. To distract myself from the tedium of modern football I've put my neck on the line and picked out my FAVOURITE X1 (not necessarily the best or most balanced team, just a team full of my favourite ever SCFC players that I used to look forward to watching in their positions to remind myself that it did actually used to be interesting to watch the Swans.

1. Roger Freestone - Rock solid keeper who played behind some very average defenders and was a model of consistency.
2. Angel Rangel - Fantastic football brain, always 1 pass ahead of everyone, his first time pass down the line under pressure was top class.
3. Chris Coleman - The first time I had ever seen someone with real pace at the vetch, we didnt have him for long but he was some player (Terry Phelan comes a close second).
4. Andy Melville - Never did anything spectacular but was a good old fashioned no nonsense defender.
5. Ashley Williams - A proper leader who gave everything for the shirt, his long diagonal passes from the back were sublime.
6. Leon Britton - Without him the Swansea way would not have been possible, controlled the tempo of games with ease.
7. Colin Pascoe - Was a level above anything we had during his first stint with us, he used to get the crowd going when he got the ball.
8. Robbie James - They dont build them like him any more, the guvnor in the middle of the park, always loved a shot from distance (does anyone remember these?).
9. Michu - Had it all, great first touch, good in the air, great at linking up play and also not afraid to beat a man and have a shot.
10. Lee Trundle - Provided so much entertainment, not forgetting the goals.
11. Nathan Dyer - He was always positive going forward, not like the wingers now always looking to go backwards.

When I look at our current squad there is nobody that provides anything like these guys used to in a SCFC shirt, I guess this is down to the modern way of playing - Stats before entertainment, possession over points.

1. Tony Millington. Boyhood hero.
7. Ivor Allchurch. The Swans greatest ever footballer. Alan Curtis will have to go to 11..
10. Dai Gwyther. The best left hook in football, back when hard men played!

Manager: John Toshack, though Bryan Flynn deserves an honourable mention, as does Roberto Martinez.
